Do You Know Nonie? If you have been visiting at

Sayre very long, you have most likely come in contact with Nonie Jackson who works in the kitchen. Nonie has worked at Sayre Christian Village Healthcare Center for 14 years. Even more impressive is the fact that Nonie has not missed a single day of work since she started. Nonie uses her special seasonings and extras in her recipes. She takes great pride in her work, her food and

her kitchen. She loves her work and is very dedicated.

Nonie also loves to travel and often goes back to her hometown, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, whenever she gets a chance. She also gets charged up watching wrestling on TV.

Being the mother of 8 children, Nonie works along-side two of her daughters, Christie and Kim, who also con-tribute much joy and fun to the kitchen atmosphere and are as dedicated as their mother.

Robin Elliott says about Nonie, “She is my right hand and I honestly could not do my job without her.” That’s high praise! We appreciate you Nonie and we love you for all your dedication and caring for our residents. Good Job!

Maintenance Update from Kevin Chris Kitchens, Maintenance

Assistant, is renovating the planter bed in front of the Palliative Care Unit. That entrance is used by families with a loved one in the Palliative Care Unit. Residents are sometimes loaded into our buses for outings at this entrance and they truly enjoy the flowers and fountain. Chris’s work is greatly appreci-

ated!

It should also be noted that all the decorating of the Life Enrichment Center that is overhead is done by another assistant, Zoe Harmon. Along with regular duties, Zoe is always helpful in getting decorations hung from the ceiling. And just so you know, more than once, Zoe has hung

the moon.

“Also noteworthy,” says Kevin Jarvis, Mainte-nance Director, “is that we now have new additions to the 400 Reflection of Life courtyard. Mama duck has twelve (12) new mouths to feed when she’s not teaching them the finer art of swimming in the pool. We are also have nine (9) more new ducklings in the 300 courtyard.” . The Healthcare residents are af-forded much pleasure in watching

the ducklings grow and mature.

“Going forward,” Kevin adds, “We will be enhancing All courtyards with additional plants and water features for the of our residents enjoyment! STAY

TUNED!!!”

Thanks to Kevin and his team for all they do for the residents here at the Healthcare Center. They

do a great job!

Heavens Grocery Store

I was walking down life's highway a long time ago,

One day I saw a sign that read, "HEAVEN'S GROCERY

STORE"

As I got a little closer the door came open wide

And when I came to myself I was standing inside.

I saw a host of ANGELS. They were standing everywhere.

One handed me a basket and said, "My Child shop with care".

Everything a Christian needed was in that grocery store.

And all you couldn't carry, you could come back the next day

for more.

First, I got some PATIENCE: LOVE was in the same row.

Further down was UNDERSTANDING: You need that eve-

rywhere you go.

I got a box or two of WISDOM, a bag or two of FAITH.

I just couldn't miss the HOLY GHOST, for it was all over the

place.

I stopped to get some STRENGTH and COURAGE to help me

Sayre Christian Village

strives daily to provide godly

care to those in need. Its

supporters are changing long-

term care in the name of Jesus

Christ. Sayre Healthcare Center

is utilizing best practices in elder

care which is helping residents

function at their highest levels.

Sayre’s ministry is able to

continue because of the support

of people who recognize the im-

portance of serving older adults.

A gift to Sayre Christian Village’s

non-profit ministry makes a

significant and positive

difference as we seek to provide

godly care (care that makes God

happy) for our residents. Should

you wish to discuss how a gift

may benefit both you and Sayre

Christian Village, please contact

Alice Greene by telephone at

run this race.

By then my basket was getting full, but I remembered

I needed some GRACE.

I didn't forget SALVATION, for SALVATION was

free,

So I tried to get enough of that to save both You and

Me.

Then I started up to the counter to pay my grocery

bill,

For I thought I had everything to do the MASTER'S

Will.

As I went up the aisle, I saw PRAYER: and I just

had to put that in,

For I knew when I stepped outside, I would run into

Sin.

PEACE AND JOY were in plenty, they were last on

the shelf.

SONG and PRAISE were hanging near, so I just

helped myself.

Then I said to the angel, "Now, how much do I

owe?"

He smiled and said, “Just take them everywhere you

go.”

Again, I smiled and said, "How much do I really

owe?"

He smiled again and said, “MY CHILD, JESUS

PAID YOUR BILL

A LONG, LONG TIME AGO."

Sharon Samford Leaving Healthcare

Activities Department

After working in the Healthcare Activities

Department since August of 2008, Sharon Samford

will be transferring to another department on campus.

She will be greeting residents in her new position as

server at Friendship Towers. Sharon says she will

miss the Healthcare residents who she sees almost

daily. And she will miss the interaction with families,

staff and volunteers. However, she is looking forward

to a new schedule and new pace in this new position.

Her father is a resident at the Healthcare Cen-

ter so visits will not be uncommon.

Sharon’s will start her position in Friendship

on May 16th. Her last day at the Healthcare Center

will be May 11th.

Derby weekend is the first Saturday in May, with

the Derby being run on the 7th. We will be celebrating

the Derby in a number of ways including making Derby

hats. Our “Run for the Roses” horse race will be the 6th

and on Derby Day, we will wear our Derby hats for the

Derby Hat Contest and enjoy mock Mint Juleps in the

courtyard.

Mother’s Day, May 8th, will be celebrated with a

Mother’s Day Reception at 2:00 in the LEC. All family

members are encouraged to attend with their mothers.

National Nursing Home Week follows Mother’s

Day and goes for the entire week.

(Please see the article on front page.)

Each Unit will be invited to decorate each hallway with a specific theme

In addition to all that,

we will be taking two outings in May,

one to the Olive Garden and one to the

Legends game. The trip to the Olive

Garden will be on Wednesday, the

18th. We will go to the Legends game

on the following Wednesday, May

25th. Again, families are welcomed and encouraged to go

on outings with their resident loved one.

We anticipate a lot more going on each day and

know by the end of May we will celebrate Memorial Day in

part by remembering all the things we did during the

month. And speaking of Memorial Day, we have a

Cookout in the courtyard planned. Whew! What Fun!

To recap what we did in April, we had great family

involvement on the Keeneland trip. Residents from all four

units attended. We planted flowers and vegetables in

pots. We completed casting our absentee ballots. We

enjoyed movies, music and parties. We

grew spiritually through Bible Study

and Worship. And we enjoyed a Tea

Party with fancy treats.

We love to encourage families

to join us for any and all activities that

are scheduled on our calendar. And we

are open to your ideas for activities also.

Always feel free to contact us at 859-

271-9000, ext 292.
