Crossing North Carolina
Kicking It In Brevard!Transylvania Youth Soccer Association hosted North Carolina Youth Soccer Associa-tion (NCYSA)’s Publix Recreation Road for 30 players & multiple coaches on Satur-day afternoon. NCYSA’s Assistant Technical Director, Eric Redder helped facilitate
the playing opportunity for TYSA’s members. Additionally he worked with the coaches in attendance on the field through some Coaching Education examples during the
day’s sessions. The players & coaches participated in scrimmages, training activities, and a skills competition. It was a great day for soccer in Western NC for all!

Small Sided Games GuidelinesUS Soccer Mandates Field Sizes, Players on the Field
In 2015, the US Soccer Federation mandated two important items - Birth Year and Small Sided Games. All of the information below can be found on the US Youth Soccer website at this link.Earlier this spring, NCYSA advised our member associations that the USSF Standards of Play for Small Sided Play will be mandatory starting with the 2017-2018 season (4 v 4, 7 v 7, 9 v 9).
In addition, if you plan to replace goals currently in use, we ask that you replace with the recommended goal sizes to meet the Standards of Play. NCYSA is not asking to replace small sided goals currently in use (as long as they meet safety standards).
The Federation allowed states to mandate the revisions on a voluntary basis in 2016-17, with the understand-ing that the mandate must be in place by August 2017. Below are some highlights from the Small Sided Games Revisions. Objectives• Provide an age appropriate environment• Standards align with physiological needs of players
based on year of birth• Uniformity across the country and across member-
ship• Similar to the outcomes listed for birth year
registration, having consistent standards allows U.S. Soccer, and the programs of our members, to provide more meaningful messaging and education for parents, players, coaches and referees

NCYSA Hosts TOPSoccer SymposiumWe were very excited the 2017 US Youth Soccer’s Region I/III TOPSoccer Symposium was hosted in Greens-boro, Friday, March 24th to Sunday, March 26th.
The Symposium gave an opportunity for state and local program leaders from across the eastern 1/3 of the US to come together to share best practices and hear from a variety of subject matter experts, while improving the quality of each state association’s TOPSoccer programs. The Symposium also helps program leaders to better understand the unique issues facing the individual programs so that participation can increase both in numbers of associations offering TOPSoccer as well as in the number of athletes and volunteers at each association.
Thanks to Tonya and Olivia from CASL TOPSoccer for presenting at the Symposium.

NCYSA Youth AcademyThe NCYSA Youth Academy held the Spring Showcase in March at BB&T Bryan Park Soccer Complex in Greensboro with 132 teams taking part in the festivities (95 boys’ and 37 girls’ teams).
Please mark your calendars for the Fall Showcase - October 28-29, 2017 at the High Point Athletic Complex.
Southern Regionals in GreensboroThe Greensboro United Soccer Association and NC Youth Soccer will be hosting the 2017 and 2018 US Youth Soccer Region III Champsionships (Southern Regionals) at BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park. Dates for the 2017 event are June 22-29.
With over 5000 players and 15,000 spectators anticipated, as well as over 200 teams - you can imagine the number of volunteers that are needed.
With so many areas where volunteers are needed to make this a great event for the visiting teams, we’d love to have you come out and help - even if it’s for a couple of hours! You would be donating to a great cause, and have the opportunity to watch some great soccer.
