Celebrating Family Since 1932 Volume 9, Issue 3
April 2016
Hey Family!!! How GOOD and PLEAS-ANT it is for (FAMILY) to dwell TOGETHER in UNITY(Psalm 133:1, kjv). Well, it's COUNTDOWN to "Wilson Family Reunion '84"!! That's right!- just Days now before God grants us the grand privilege of assembling ourselves for the GREATEST family reunion in America—NO— in The world!!!
Our theme this year is "IT’S YOUR LEGACY - WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE". As the clock winds down to the weekend of July 8th through July 10th, I hope you are ready cuz this year's reunion will be DA BOMB. So tell every family member to come. Let me give you a quick review of the reunion weekend. On Friday we gather at the landmark homestead of our ancestor HENRY WILSON where he amassed so much land that the road is named HENRY WILSON ROAD. Be sure to bring your camera/cellphone and snap a picture standing beside the historical marker highlighting his monumental contributions to the county and especially the African-American community. Of course there will be our famous Wilson Brunswick Stew, hotdogs, burgers, signature Wilson lemonade and hot fried fish! And there will be a softball game with players from each of the Wilson clans. Just bring your glove, we have the bats and balls. Also we will have a moon bounce for the kids to jump up and down on. Be there at 12 noon when the action starts. What a great day of outdoor fellowship food and fun. Walk all over the land where your ancestors trod and if you are shy of sunshine just sit back under the giant Wilson Tent and watch others get a tan. And then there is Saturday - the Wilson Gala in the fabulous ballroom of the Embassy Suites, our host hotel. Let me tell you this - as you step into the ballroom you will go through a beautiful white archway decorated with lighted stars and draped in purple chiffon cloth; pause there and get a photo memo snapped by our photographer in residence, Carl Webb. Then take your seat and enjoy the buffet meal of fried chicken, shrimp & grits, collard greens, potato salad, Mac 'n cheese, salad bar and choice of three desserts, all compliments of the master chef of the Embassy Suites. Oh, and don't forget - Hotel Guests - your two complimentary free
THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER
drinks at the hotel bar, virgin of course (LOL). Don't forget your souvenir purple & gold hand fan favor at your table, compliments of the reunion president, yours truly. And yes, again we will feature "DANCIN' THROUGH THE DECADES with all dances you remember and never heard of. Oh yeah and the FASHION PROMENADE with prizes for the best dressed in various categories. So wear your Sunday best in purple, gold or white; this is a formal/semi-formal affair. One more added feature this year, an awesome band and an ALLSTAR REVUE featuring Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, and a special cameo appearance of soul brother number one, resurrected from the dead - MR. DYNAMITE himself- the incomparable James Brown!!! Then we close out on Sunday with our traditional FAMILY DINNER. And get this, we will have cordoned off on display, the chair our founder, William Wilson sat in. You will be free to take a snapshot but Don't TOUCH this historic relic. We will announce scholarship winners, elect our new officers and have a powerful devotional period and announce our raffle drawing winners. And in between all this, you can SHOP TIL YOU DROP at all the stores right in the hotel complex!!! You CAN’T Miss this weekend! I am hearing the host hotel is filling up quickly but no worry, there are two other hotels right there in the complex, but I advise you to make your reservations now and send in your registration fee ahead of time. We don't want to reach ballroom capacity and you noticeable to attend the gala. Til we meet - May God bless you REAL GOOD!!!

WILSON FAMILY PORTRAIT GALLERY-Sunday, July 10th
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss if interest from the things we love. Major depressive disorder or clinical depression, often affects how you think, feel and behave. For many people with depression, symptoms usually are severe enough to cause noticeable problems in day to day activities, such as work, school, social activities or relationships with others. Other people may feel generally miserable or unhappy without really knowing why. Many people are embarrassed to talk about it but it has become common. The first thing to do is to Identity the problem exist, the second thing is to OWN IT and the 3rd thing is to DO Something About It. The scariest reality with depression is its connection with suicide. In fact in 2013, more than 41,000 people died from suicide in the United States.
What exactly are the symptoms of Depression? The symptoms of depression may include: Feelings of sadness, emptiness and hopelessness, Angry outburst, Irritability and Frustration, Insomnia, Loss of Interest, Changes in appetite, Trouble thinking, concentrating, making decisions and remembering things, Unexplained physical problems and Suicidal thoughts.
Depression affects millions of people, but there are varying treatments available, from lifestyle changes to medications. No matter the path of treatment you choose, the goal is to getting back to feeling like yourself again. When experiencing depression some may feel defeated by the pressures of the world and just want to give up. Deep grieving can contribute to feelings of depression and self neglect, or maybe life has become overwhelming and unbearable when you no longer know or desire to move forward. At these times we can no longer trust in ourselves but may need to seek guidance from a health professional, a trusted friend or family member or seek spiritual guidance to work thru overcoming such challenges.
When to see a doctor If you feel depressed, make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as you can. If you're reluctant to seek treatment, talk to a friend or loved one, a health care professional, a faith leader, or someone else you trust.
When to get emergency help If you think you may hurt yourself or attempt suicide, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Also consider these options if you're having suicidal thoughts: Call your mental health specialist. Call a suicide hotline number — in the U.S., call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK
(1-800-273-8255). Use that same number and press "1" to reach the Veterans Crisis Line. Seek help from your primary doctor or other health care provider. Reach out to a close friend or loved one. Contact a minister, spiritual leader or someone else in your faith community.
If a loved one or friend is in danger of attempting suicide or has made an attempt: Make sure someone stays with that person Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately Or, if you can do so safely, take the person to the nearest hospital emergency room
