Nursing

Department Background: For more than half a century, the School of Nursing at UMass has focused on assessing and meeting the needs of individuals, families, and communities as those needs change. The clinical agencies in which the School places its students include hospitals, extended care facilities, ambulatory care clinics, schools, senior centers, day programs, and correctional facilities across Massachusetts and throughout New England. Students also take part in a range of cross-cultural experiences in Africa and in the United Kingdom including Northern Ireland.

Configuration:Nursing was consolidated from Arnold House, Montague House and Morrill Science Center into Skinner Hall. Nursing moved into the newly renovated and expanded Skinner Building in the fall of 2008.

Campus Location:Skinner is located along the east side of North Pleasant Street.

Right-Sizing:Overall, the School of Nursing is appropriately sized and allows for some future growth. There is currently a surplus of office space as expected in a new facility. Nursing provides some private offices for lecturers, this is reflected in the right-sizing.

Quality of the Space:Skinner is newly renovated with a modern addition. The space is interesting, stimulating and some of the best space on campus. The lighting was noted to be a particularly successful. New teaching labs are ‘state of the art’.

Condition:As noted above, Skinner is new and in excellent condition throughout.

Relocation Requirement:No relocations are anticipated
