Quality Service Award CvSU Ranked 7th among SUCs Kudos to Cavite State University! The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc., recently acknowledged the hard work of the University as it ranked 7th among the Quality Service Award Top Ranking SUCs in the country. The award was given during the Closing Program of the 30th Annual AACCUP Conference held at Century Park Hotel, Malate Manila, 15-17 February. Banua, as keynote speaker and NEDA Chief Economic Development Specialist, Mr. Donald James D. Gawe, as resource speaker/facilitator. The two-day activity aimed to revisit the functions of the Extension Services, harmonize the Extension goals and objectives with the Regional and National Development Agenda and the latest Memorandum from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED Memo No. 52, s. 2016), design a five-year (2017-2021) college or campus strategic plan anchored on the University Extension agenda, and design a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) tool/system for all of the Office’s extension activities. Dir. Banua presenting the NEDA Ambisyon 2040 Dr. Hernando D. Robles, University President, explained the over-all directions anchored on the University Strategic Plan for 2017-2022, while Dir. Banua presented the National Development Agenda dubbed as Ambisyon 2040. “Extension activities or projects should be aligned with the mandate of the college/campus and training programs should be tailored-fit to the needs of the community”, he said. On the other hand, Mr. Gawe talked about the rudiments of coming up with a good strategic plan. He also proposed for a possible design of a monitoring and evaluation tool. The said activity was attended by the deans and extension coordinators from the different colleges and satellite campuses of the University. Also present was NEDA IV-A’s Senior Economic Development Specialist, Ms. Lovely Mores, who discussed the contents of the Regional Development Plan. Dr. Alejandro DC. Mojica, Sr., Vice-President for Research, Extension, Continuing Education and Training Services (RECETS), who was tasked to deliver the opening remarks was ably represented by Dr. Ruel M. Mojica, Director for National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC). The three-day conference was attended by Dr. Hernando D. Robles, President, Dr. Camilo A. Polinga, VPAA, Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Dean, Graduate School, and Dr. Adolfo C. Manuel, Jr., QAAC Director. “I would like to commend the effort of each and every member of the CvSU family for a job well done. This award poses more challenges, for us to be ‘fast and serious’ in working together to achieve the vision and mission of our beloved University”, the president said. CvSU Administrative Council holds Management Training Strategic Planning Workshop

Session in the afternoon started with the President, who presented the CvSU Development Agenda 2017-2022. He pointed out the ‘CvSU 2020, moving forward in one direction’, following the seven-year target, namely: 2016 – Transition; 2017 – Transformation; 2018 – Institutionalization; 2019 – Recognition; 2020 – Global University; 2021 – Sustainability; and 2022 – Research University. He posed a challenge to everyone and left with a covenant saying that, “We will affirm beginning today and in the next years to come that in achieving our vision and mission…We Will Be: FAST…AND…SERIOUS.” An audio-visual presentation on AmBisyon Natin 2040, a project of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) was shown to showcase the ordinary Filipinos’ dreams and aspirations in the next years to come. Different inputs were also discussed by the following: Higher Education Reform Agenda - Dr. Camilo A. Polinga; ASEAN and Philippine Qualifications Framework - Dr. Adolfo C. Manuel, Jr., Director, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center; and National Higher Education Research Agenda – Dr. Ruel M. Mojica, NCRDEC Director. The first day of the training ended with an open forum and a closing remarks from Dr. Julio G. Alava, VP, External and Business Affairs. The succeeding days of the training were conducted in Hotel Veniz, Baguio City where the four major units, namely: Academic Affairs; Research; Administrative and Support Services; and External

and Business Affairs presented their plans and strategies to achieve the targets. There was active participation and critiquing of inputs which led to a very comprehensive delivery of expectations and outputs. On their way back home, the Council conducted benchmarking, aimed at knowing the best practices of some of the state universities in Region 3. First stop was at Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), in Camiling, Tarlac. Formerly known as Tarlac College of Agriculture, TAU is certified No. 1 in Extension program and No. 2 in Research activities among SUCs in the country, according to its President, Dr. Max P. Guillermo. Next stop was at Tarlac State University (TSU) in Tarlac City, an IMS certified in three areas, namely: ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS); ISO 14001:2015 Environment Management System (EMS); and OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health Safety Management System. Last stop was at Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) in Bacolor, Pampanga, considered to be the cleanest and the oldest Arts and Trade School in Asia.

Armed with renewed vision and hope for the University, members of the Administrative Council converged at the International House II of the main campus for the opening program of the three-day Management Training and Strategic Planning Workshop, 24 – 27 January 2017. The Council, headed by Dr. Hernando D. Robles, President, was enthusiastic and optimistic during the first day of the training. In his opening remarks, the President laid down his vision for Global University 2020 anchored on his Medium Term Development Plan 2017-2022. Moreover, the morning session showcased the accomplishments and achievements of the University for the past five years which were presented by the following: Dr. Camilo A. Polinga, VP, Academic Affairs, for Higher Education Services; Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Dean, Graduate School and Open Learning College, for Advanced Education Services; Dr. Alejandro DC. Mojica, Sr., VP, Research, Extension, Continuing Education and Training Services, for Research Services and Technical Advisory Extension Services; and Dr. Henry O. Garcia, VP, Administrative and Support Services, for General Administration and Support Services and Support to Operations. Dr. Hosea DL Matel, Director for Research, also shared his views and opinions on the research status of the University. An open forum followed where stakeholders from the different sectors were invited and were given a chance to ask questions from the presenters.

MSU-IIT conducts live-in seminar-workshop SPVM donates physics equipment

Fifty three selected faculty members from the main and satellite campuses of the University participated in the live-in seminar-workshop on ‘Project Proposal Writing and Conducting of Research’, organized by Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), held at Hostel Tropicana, 24-25 February.

The two-day event was spearheaded by the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) Extension Committee, in coordination with the Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM), and Cavite State University (CvSU).

as a gesture of gratitude, for graciously hosting the 2015 SPVM National Physics Conference. The said equipment were turned over during the said seminar-workshop. Prof. Louie T. Murcia and Prof. Editha P. Jacosalem handled the training on the use of the apparatus.

The activity aimed to further equip the faculty and staff of the University with the knowledge and skills requisite for productive research engagement.

CVMBS doctors attend the 84th PVMA Conference and Convention PAVMES Meeting

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), headed by Dr. Alvin-William A. Alvarez, Dean, and other faculty of the College, namely: Dr. Ma. Cynthia R. de la Cruz; Dr. Nelson J. Montialto; and Dr. Chester Saldana, attended the 84th PVMA Scientific Conference and Annual Convention, 21 - 24 February, at the Baguio Country Club, Baguio City. Drs. De la Cruz, Montialto and Saldana presented their respective papers in various fora during the first two days of the convention.

On the other hand, Dr. Alvarez participated in the meeting of the Philippine Association of Veterinary Medicine Educators and Schools, Inc. (PAVMES), which is basically the Council of Deans. Topics discussed were focused on the following concerns: Role of the Academe in Rabies Eradication; Masteral Degree as a requirement for Faculty Hiring; and Moratorium on the National Veterinary Admission Test (NVAT).

Together with Dr. Daniel Ventura, his colleague from the World Animal Protection, Innovations on Animal Welfare Education, particularly the establishment of Clinical Skills Laboratory in Vet Schools, was also discussed during the meeting. Likewise, election of national officers was conducted where Dr. Alvarez was elected Auditor.

ODA conducts training-workshop The Office of the Director for Administration (ODA), conducted

a one-day training-workshop on Documentary Requirements on Government Transactions, 23 February, at the International House II of the University.

There were 100 participants, composed of office staff and faculty members from different units, colleges and satellite campuses, who were trained to familiarize themselves with the new government official documents utilized in the university to lessen or eliminate the return of voluminous vouchers due to documentary discrepancies.

Ms. Marcelina M. Masicap, OIC of Internal Audit Office and Engr. Rosalie A. Pelle, Admin. Officer V of the Supply and Property Office, served as resource speakers. Present during the training were Dr. Hernando D. Robles, Dr. Henry O. Garcia and Dr. Mary Jane D. Tepora, who graced and supported the event.

Based on the impressions and written evaluation, the participants found it to be meaningful in the performance of their duties and committed themselves to adhere to the standards set forth by the administration pertaining to the usage of new government official documents.

Region 4 ranks 4th in the SCUAA National Games 2017CvSU’s bet for Ms. SCUAA grabs the 4th runner-up title

All roads led to Batangas City as 18 regions in the country converged for the 2017 SCUAA National Games, 19 – 25 February. This year, Luzon, specifically Region 4 Southern Tagalog, took the lead in hosting the said event, with Batangas State University as the host University.

With the theme, “PASUC @ 49: Paving the Path towards Internationalization through Sports”, this one-week event kicked off with a grand parade which was participated in by the different regions, together with their athletes and candidates for Mr. and Ms. SCUAA National Games, sporting their colorful delegation wear. Opening ceremonies followed at Batangas Provincial Sports Complex, with Hon. Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ M. Angara, as the keynote speaker. Also present during the ceremonies were Batangas City Mayor, Hon. Beverly Dimacuha-Mariño, 5th District Representative of Batangas, Hon. Mario Vittorio ‘Marvey’ Mariño, Governor of the Province of Batangas, Hon. Hermilando I. Mandanas, Philippine Sports Commissioner, Hon. William I. Ramirez, National PASUC President, Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras, Host-President, Batangas State University, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, and Presidents, Sports Directors, Coaches, and athletes from different state colleges and universities. Our University President, Dr. Hernando D. Robles took time out to extend his support and encouragement to the players.

In the official and final medal tally, Region 4 Southern Tagalog ranked 4th among the other regions with 22 gold, 59 silver, and 83 bronze, totaling to 164 medals from the 22 sport events participated by the athletes from the Region.

Moreover, players from our own University contributed much in reaping silver and bronze medals in athletics, badminton, baseball, karatedo, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo, while Gemma Rose Rosarda, from the College of Education, brought home her gold medal in chess.

Meanwhile, the University’s and Region’s bet for Ms. SCUAA, April Rose S. Alegre, a third year AB Journalism student, was awarded, Best in Delegation Wear and grabbed the 4th Runner-up title among the 11 candidates who joined the competition.
