InsideInside
In past issues, we’ve highlightedsome champions who have excelledindividually in events such as the
World Shootoff Championships, IPSC/USPSA events, IDPA matches and theSteel Challenge. This time, we’d like tohighlight teams of outstanding lawenforcement officers who have distin-guished themselves using GLOCK pistols.
For some years now, Soldier of
Fortune magazine has sponsored a “3gun” (rifle, shotgun and handgun) match. In recent memory, this match has beenlocated at the range complexes outsideLas Vegas, Nevada and has been an outstanding test of competitors andequipment. In addition to individualsbeing recognized, there are also severalcategories of “teams,” where several (4)associated competitors can band togeth-er and shoot not only as individuals, butas a team, in specific team events.
We are most pleased to announce that
for the second year running, current(and one former) law enforcement officers from the City of Los Angeles, known as “LA Perfection” are the WorldChampions using GLOCKs as theirsidearms of choice.
But there is more; SOF has severalclassifications for teams; the gentlemenfrom LA are all involved with trainingand so compete with other law enforce-ment trainers. GLOCK is also mostpleased to note that in the “Street” cate-gory, the “Border Bandits,” law enforce-ment officers from the San Diego areasecured the World Championship in thiscategory, ably assisted by GLOCK pistols. Also meriting an honorablemention is the team from the CaliforniaDepartment of Corrections, whichplaced 4th overall in team competition, again using GLOCKs exclusively.
As is clear from the above, GLOCKsare the choice of champions in all areas.

I n the Volume II, 1999GLOCK Report we
announced that henceforth“Juniors” who win pistols at GSSF
matches will not receive the usual “awardvoucher” that is redeemable for a firearm. They willinstead receive a $500 (maturity value) US Savings Bond.
For GSSF purposes a “Junior” is anyone under 18 yearsof age. However, it has occurred to us that for the purposes of transferring a firearm, the winning individualmust be at least 21 years old. For the rest of this season(matches scheduled through January 2000) “Junior” willcontinue to be defined as anyone under 18 years of age.For the year 2000 season, the maximum age for “Juniors”will be raised from 18 to 21. We will define this as anycompetitor who will NOT reach their respective 21stbirthday prior to the end of GLOCK, Inc.’s fiscal year,
March 31, 2000. GSSF firearm award vouchers are goodfor GLOCK, Inc.’s current fiscal year, may be redeemedthrough March 31, 2000, and are void thereafter.
If a competitor’s 21st birthday is going to occurprior to the end of GLOCK,Inc.’s fiscal year we will continue to award them the standard GSSF FirearmAward Voucher form. Theyjust have to hold it until theirrespective 21st birthdatearrives before they canredeem it. Any competitorwho will not reach their 21stbirthday before the end of the fiscal year will be issued aUS Savings Bond instead of the firearm award voucher.

GLOCK announced that it has surpassed the two million unit production mark for GLOCK “Safe Action” pistols. GLOCK’s2,000,000th pistol—like the first
pistol GLOCK produced back in1982—is an ever-popular model
G17, chambered in 9x19. The pistolcarries serial number DAP000US, has been
handsomely engraved: “My two millionth pistol,” and bears the engraved autograph of its inventor,
Mr. Gaston Glock. In addition, a majestic geometric scrolling adornsthe slide of this magnificent collector’s edition.
GLOCK auctioned the rare pistol by means of a running silentauction that culminated with the pistol being awarded to the highestbidder of $9,300 at the International Association of Chiefs of Police
Convention that was held this October 30 through November 4 inCharlotte, North Carolina. GLOCK, Inc. matched the proceeds from theauction and donated the entire sum to C.O.P.S., a national foundationfor widows and orphans of officers killed in the line of duty.

W henI turned 21 I went out and bought a TaurusPT 92. I thought it was perfect until I shot a
friend’s G22 and had to have one. I sold my Taurus and bought a G22. Now I do have a perfect gun. If I’m camping, hunting or carrying concealed, I’m neverwithout my GLOCK. I thought you might like a photo ofme camping with the best firearm ever made.

No More Revolvers!
I have to write you this letter to thank you for mak-ing a gun like the GLOCK. Before I met my husband,
I knew nothing about guns. He has taught me every-thing I need to know about being a safe and responsi-ble gun owner. The first gun he bought me was arevolver. I never dreamed in a million years that I couldbe swayed from that kind of gun. I always wanted tocarry a “cowboy gun.”
Then about two months ago, my husband finallyconvinced me to try out a compensated 9 mm GLOCK.I figured I would just shoot it a couple of times tohumor him, because I would never give up myrevolvers. I was in for the shock of my life! I cannotexpress how I felt the first time I fired that GLOCK. Iloved it, so that night we went to our favorite gun shopand bought my first GLOCK. I could hardly wait to tryit out—just like a kid at Christmas waiting for Santa!
The first time I fired my new gun, I put a group
together the size of a man’s spread hand, and thosegroups have been consistent ever since. My husbandsays that I am a natural, but I think it’s the gun—it’sperfect! With a year left to practice, I hope to go to thenext GSSF competition with my husband. Once again, thank you for making such a great pistol!

First Time Fun
I just wanted to say “Thanks” to all the fine people atGSSF for putting on such an outstanding event at
the Lone Star Classic VIII last month. You made ourfirst GSSF match a blast!!! Things truly are bigger inTexas, and this match had to be one of your biggest.
This is my son, Aaron, and his G23, with which hetook top honors in the High Junior Male category inDallas. This is his first GLOCK and was his first match. As he has been shooting for only four months, I could-n’t be more proud of him. Now, I cannot keep him outof our local indoor range…all he wants to do is shoot, shoot, shoot.
Shooting GLOCKs together has brought a father andson closer. You wouldn’t believe the competitionbetween us! We now have something to talk about, even when we are not at the range. I have been shoot-ing pistols for years, but GLOCK has made shootingfun. Needless to say, GLOCK pistols are my favorites, because of their reliability and accuracy. I wouldn’ttrade my G17 or G35 for any other pistol made.
Thanks again for making our first GSSF match apleasurable one, and keep on putting out thosesuperbly engineered handguns.

Member’s CornerMember’s Corner“GLOCKified”
I guess you might say I’ve been “GLOCKified.” I wasfirst introduced to GLOCK by my father-in-law in
the spring of 1995. He assured me it would be a lot offun to shoot, and that it was very user-friendly.
Since my first shooting experience, I have becomevery interested in GLOCKs. I have participated in sev-eral GSSF matches, and recently purchased my veryown G17. My husband is a Deputy Sheriff and is also aGLOCK owner. With my father-in-law’s help, I have notonly enjoyed shooting my GLOCK, but have developeda lot of confidence in my gun handling and shootingability.
My GLOCK has even become a regular topic of conversation at my place of work. Here I am picturedwith my first target, shot by a 9 mm GLOCK, and hanging on my office door. On it are the words “DONOT DISTURB.” Fortunately, my staff members havegreat senses of humor!

Happy Memories Lead to GLOCK
I have fond memories of target shooting with mygrandfather when I was a youngster. He taught me
gun safety and maintenance. And, he often told me ofhis experiences in the Korean conflict—how he had tolearn to field strip and reassemble an M1 in the dark.Since his death about ten years ago, I have not beeninvolved in the shooting sports. I recently decided—nay, had an urge—to get back into the hobby my
grandfather introduced me to.After much research, I opted to buy a GLOCK .45
caliber. I must say, I’m very impressed. Here is a prod-uct that certainly lives up to its reputation. My numberone factor in choosing a handgun is reliability/durabil-ity. Seeing so many professional and amateur shooterswho swear by their GLOCKs, I’m proud to say I am oneof them. I’ve had no problems or hassles of any kindwith the quality or craftsmanship of this finely engi-neered piece of equipment. I look forward to manyenjoyable years of shooting sports with my GLOCK bymy side. Keep up the great work.
And to my grandfather, who introduced me to theworld of shooting sports…thank you. Rest in peace.

Pistol People
A t the GSSF match in Jackson, New Jersey thispast June, there were Pistol People every-
where…the pistols were GLOCKs, of course. We tiedour Jackson attendance record from a couple of yearsago–21. This year though, six of the Pistol People werewomen.
We develop team spirit as well as competitive spirit. We have special team shirts printed, and most of usbuy at least two so that we always look sharp. We geta great feeling watching our members cheer each otheron, especially when the shooter is competing for thefirst time. The GSSF people, as well as the range personnel, always help put the nervous ones at ease.We always have a good time at the matches.
Thanks to everyone who makes it possible to havesafe shooting competition that’s a lot of fun.

A Family of 4s
I n our family the figure 4 is very common. We havequadruplet grandchildren who are four years old;
their mother is forty years old; their mailing address isin the 4000 block and their father and I both ownGLOCK .40 caliber pistols.
My son, Andy, and I recently joined GSSF. We havebeen interested in, and owned handguns since ourearly adulthood. At a young age, Andy was taught gunsafety at home and participated in firearm safetycourses. We both have concealed weapon permits. He and I are now teaching the “quads” gun safety appropriate for their age and comprehension.
I am a former police Lieutenant, and was once certified by the State as an instructor in firearms andthe use of deadly force. Due to age (maturity), I amnow too physically challenged to confidently protectmyself either with the martial arts or by running. MyG27, therefore, offers me comforting security.
We enjoy “The GLOCK Report,” and hope to attenda GSSF match soon. Enclosed please find a picture ofthe “quads” and me. You will notice that one of theboys is wearing a GSSF cap—as you can imagine, each of them wanted to wear the cap for the photo.
Keep up the good work with “The GLOCK Report.”If at all feasible, I think your readers would appreciatearticles about various states’ gun laws and reciprocitywith regard to concealed weapon permits.

GLOCK for Life
I retired from law enforcement after 21 years of ser-vice. Prior to my departure, I was injured. Due to
this injury, I had great difficulty qualifying on the firingrange with my 4'' service revolver. My problem washandling the weight of the weapon. Some of the mem-bers of my department were changing over to semi-automatic (GLOCK) sidearms. It was suggested that Itry a GLOCK to see if it would be more suitable than
my service revolver. Of course, I didn’t think it wouldmake any difference, so I didn’t take the advice.
Guess I should have been from Missouri. My injurybecame increasingly worse, and after two unsuccess-ful operations, I was no better. So, feeling that I had noother option, I invested in a G23. I just could notbelieve the difference. I was able handle the G23—theaccuracy is phenomenal, not to mention the increasein firepower. The balance is perfect. I should havetaken this action a long time ago. Needless to say, it’sGLOCK for life for me! Keep up the good work.

GLOCK-knocker
A fter reading “The GLOCK Report,” Vol. II, 1999,page 9, I now feel it’s safe to come out of the
closet. I was impressed with the “GLOCK” lamp madeby M.S. in Georgia. I didn’t realize that there are otherGLOCK innovators, and was afraid to be dubbed an“extremist!” I created a “GLOCK-knocker” some timeago, and it’s on my front door.
The good things about it are that it is perfectly safe, doesn’t require any paperwork and a child can use itsafely without supervision.
The “GLOCK-knocker” is solid fiberglass, madefrom a cast of a G17 and shows the original serial num-ber. I liked it so much that I made another one for theback door!

Member’s CornerMember’s CornerLoyal Range Officers
M y wife and I had a great time working as rangeofficers at the GSSF Old South Classic VII last
March. We were both pleasantly surprised at the number of new shooters who showed up. Several people said they had fired only a few rounds with theirnew GLOCKs before coming to the competition. Theythought the GSSF match was a good opportunity towatch other shooters and learn good techniques.Judging from the way they were knocking down steelplates, they were quick learners.
My wife enjoyed seeing the wives and girlfriendswho shot the match learn how to use a GLOCK (or anyhandgun) for the first time. She reminded me of herfirst experience shooting GLOCKs during a GSSFmatch. Chris Edwards gave her and the other newshooters special attention during the safety briefing, and checked on the new shooters during the match. The range officer took extra time to make it an enjoyable experience for even a nervous first timer. Now she is as eager to go to the firing range as I am.
I hope we were able to spark some of the sameenthusiasm in the new shooters we worked with.Enclosed is a CD with some photos of the match.

USMC Adopts GLOCK(One at a Time)
I recently attended an NRA Law EnforcementInstructor school held at the USMC Base in
Quantico, Virginia. Over half of the class memberswere shooting GLOCK pistols of various models. I,unfortunately, was unable to shoot any of my GLOCK
pistols, as my agency required me to attend the coursewith my issued pistol.
In my group was a young Marine Sergeant from theScout/Sniper program. While an expert with the rifle,he was an unfamiliar pistol shot. The course instructorpaired us together as we were both shooting the sametype of Government Issue pistol. After watching himstruggle with his technique for a few drills, I recom-mended that he try some different models of pistols. The Marine tried several pistols of different makes andcalibers, all to no avail. Just as he was about to give up,I loaned him my G19, which I use as a backup weapon.
Immediately, this young Marine went from shootingbelow qualification to hitting in the high nineties onour final qualification with the pistol. He told me thatof all the handguns he had fired in the course, none hadbetter sights, trigger or hand comfort than the GLOCK.In fact, he offered to pay me whatever I wanted, on thespot, for my G19. I, of course, had to decline, but at theend of the day I did give him a ride to the nearestGLOCK dealer so that he could begin the process ofpurchasing his own GLOCK pistol.
