Student Data Privacy, TrustedLearning Environment (TLE) Seal

The Consortium for School Networking(CoSN) and its state affiliate chapter,Montana Educational TechnologistsAssociation (META), are honored to supportthe work of current and aspiringsuperintendents and district leadership teamsin leading all aspects of digital learningtransformations. This month we focuson student data privacy.

As school leaders continue to grow in theirknowledge and expertise in using data todrive instruction and other multiple facets ofschool operations, the issue of leading andmanaging student data privacy cansometimes seem confusing and evenoverwhelming. CoSN is pleased to share fivecritical guidelines for ensuring data privacy inyour district's or school's use of technology. CoSN's overview of student data privacyprocedures can be accessed byclicking HERE.

To assist school leaders in assuring allstakeholders that their district has built asystem and culture of trust and transparencywith regard to student data, CoSN developeda comprehensive process for school districtsto earn the Trusted Learning Environment(TLE) Seal. Montana school technologyleaders have proven to be trailblazers in thiswork across the state through the formationof the SAM Leaders Professional LearningProgram Trusted Learning EnvironmentCollegial Learning Network (SAM LPLP TLECLN). The TLE CLN, which is the first suchcohort in the United States, allows districts towork together to update and strengthen theirdata privacy practices. Last spring, BozemanPublic Schools became one of 16 schooldistricts in the country to earn the TLE Seal. Through the work of the SAM LPLP TLE CLN,seven other Montana school districts are onthe path to earning TLE Seals. Learn moreabout how and why the TLE Seal can supportyour data privacy work by clicking HERE.

CoSN has partnered with edWeb to provide amonthly webinar series on topics essential forleading digital transformations. Schoolsuperintendents serve as panelists on eachwebinar and share their stories andexpertise. Each webinar is recorded for laterviewing by those who are not able to join the
