Two To Be Inducted Into the Javelina Hall of FameFormer Texas A&I athletes
Andy Browder and Kenisha ReauxMilo will be inducted into theJavelina Hall of Fame Sept. 7.
The induction will be at theannual Hall of Fame/Championships banquet in theMemorial Student Union Building.
Browder was an offensivelineman on the 1967-70 Javelinateams that won nationalchampionships in 1969 and 1970and were national runnerup in1968.
His freshman season, theJavelinas went 9-0.
During his four seasons withthe Javelinas, the team had a 41-4record.
He was All-Lone StarConference and was signed by theBuffalo Bills after his seniorseason.
Browder has been inductedinto the Javelina Hall of Fame as ateam member.
From Dallas where he playedon the Hillcrest High School team,he currently lives in the Rio
Grande Valley.Milo, who was on the
Javelina volleyball team in 1996-99, was an All-Lone StarConference honoree for fourseasons and was the freshman ofthe year her rookie season.
She was on the LSC all-tournament team.
Milo is from Port Arthur andplayed at Jefferson High School.
She currently lives in Houston.They become the 153rd and
154th individual inductees into theHall. There have been 14 teamsinducted.
The Javelina Hall of Fame hadits charter induction in 1973 and isold of the oldest athletic halls offame in NCAA Division II.

SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, former Javelina high jumper JeronRobinson won the national championship when he cleared 7-7 at theUSA track and field meet in Iowa.
Now he’s the world champion!Robinson won the Athletics World Cup title last weekend in the
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium in London, clearing 7-6.5.He was the easy winner over runnerup Yu Wang of China, who
cleared 7-5.Following are the top jumpers at the international competition:1. Jeron Robinson, USA and Texas A&M-Kingsville, 7-7.2. Yu Wang, China, 7-5.3. Tobias Potye, Germany, 7-4.4. THE HONORS KEEP pouring in for Javelina softball signeesSaidi Castillo and Jackie De Los Santos.
Castillo was named the Texas Sportswriters Association Class3A player of the year last weekend and was on the all-state firstteam.
De Los Santos joined Saidi on the all-state first unit.Both were on the Santa Gertrudis Academy team that won the
Class 3A state championship in May.
WHEN THE JAVELINA football team takes on Texas A&M-Commerce in the season opener Aug. 30 in Commerce, it will befacing the club with the longest NCAA Division II active victorystreak.
The Lions have won 11 in a row, including the 2017 nationalchampionship.
CONGRATULATIONS TO JAVELINA track and field athleteMadeleine Maltais for being named the recipient of a Govind &Bhakti Nadkarni Engineering Scholarship through the Coastal BendCommunity Foundation.
Maltais is a junior javelin thrower from Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway High School.
THE JAVELINAS STILL have the Big Three top careerrushers in Lone Star Conference history and four of the top sevenplayed for Texas A&I and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Johnny Bailey leads the league with his 6,320 yards in 1986-89.At the time he compiled the yards, he was the all-time collegerushing leader, and still ranks near the top of the list.
Heath Sherman, who played in 1985-88 and was a teammate ofBailey’s for three seasons, ranks second with 4,654 yards.
Larry Collins, who was on the 1974-77 teams, is third on thelist with 4,511 yards.
And Larry Williams, on the 2001-04 Javelina squads, rushingfor 4,038 yards and that is the eighth best.

Gonzalez ReturnsAs Coach ForMen’s Basketball
Omar Gonzalez has returnedto the Texas A&M-Kingsvillemen’s basketball staff as anassistant coach.
Gonzalez earlier served as agraduate assistant coach for theJavelinas from 2014-17 beforegoing to Blinn College as anassistant men’s coach in 2017-18.
From El Paso, he was abasketball manager for Texas-ElPaso for two years before going tothe University of Houston wherehe was head manager for theCougars’ men’s team. He also wasthe intramurals coordinator atHouston.
Gonzalez received abachelor’s degree from Houston in2014 and a master’s degree fromTAMUK in 2017.
Bailey is also the all-time leading collegiate rusher in the state.He was the NCAA Division II national rushing leader in three of
his four collegiate seasons. He didn’t take the title his senior seasonafter missing several regular-season games because of an injury.
The Javelinas’ Big Three got their yardage without including thepost-season figures. The NCAA and NAIA didn’t includepostseason yards in career figures until much later.

THREE SCHOOLS HAVE become full-time members ofNCAA Division II after the division’s membership committeeapproved them to become active Division II members beginningSept.
The three are Emmanuel College of Georgia, Spring Hill Collegeof Alabama and Westminster College of Utah.
As active members, they are eligible to compete in NCAAchampionships and vote at the NCAA Convention.
Four other schools were advanced through the membershipprocess: Auburn (Ala.) University, Biola (Calif.) University,Davenport (Iowa) University and Purdue-Northwest (Ind.).
All were approved to begin the third year of the four-yearmembership process.
Benedictine (Ill.), Savannah (Ga.) State and Texas-Tyler wereaccepted into the Division II membership process and will begin thefirst year of the process in 2018-19.
With the addition of the three newest members, Division IImembership is now 308 schools.
THE JAVELINA FAMILY has lost three of its former footballplayers within the last several weeks.
David Marquez, who was with the Javelinas in the mid-1970sand was with the team when it played in Europe in 1976, passedaway in late May.
Jerrald Taylor, who was with the team in the early 1970s, diedin June.

And last week, Jorge Rodriguez, who was on the squads in thelate 1980s, passed away.
All left their mark on the Javelina football legacy and aremourned by all Javelinas.
Services for Rodriguez were pending at the time this issue ofthe Highlights was printed.
LONE STAR CONFERENCE notes:…West Texas A&M announced a partnersip with Six Car Pub &
Brewery in Amarillo to create a signature beer for WTAM athletics.The partnership introduces a unique branding and revenue
generation opportunity as the school becomes one of severalcolleges and athletic departments to have a licensing agreement fora branded beer.
A portion of the sales will be donated to WTAM athletics.The name of the beer will be chosen by WT fans through an
online campaign.Six Car Pub & Brewery is located in Amarillo.…Seven Lone Star Conference athletes have been nominated
for 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year.A record 581 athletes were nominated from the three NCAA
divisions.The award, established in 1991, honors graduating female
college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility anddistinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service andleadership throughout their collegiate careers.
Of the nominees, 131 are from Division II schools.The LSC athletes nominated are Brook Conley, volleyball player
at Cameron; Mariah Jameyson, softball, and Brianna Wise,basketball, Texas A&M-Commerce; Alyssa Kelly, gymnastics, TexasWoman’s; Kami Norton, track and field athlete from Angelo State;Madison Parker, basketball player from West Texas A&M, andHailey Roberts, volleyball player at Tarleton State.
This year’s woman of the year will be announced at aceremony Oct. 28 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Javelina track and field athlete Kaina Martinez was one of theeight finalists in 2017.
…Two Lone Star Conference schools have been recognized bythe Women’s Golf Coaches Association as all-scholar teams.
Tarleton State finished fourth with a team grade point averageof 3.810, Western New Mexico was 15th with a 3.656 GPA andCameron was 20th with a 3.626 GPA.
The top 25 teams recognized had GPAs of 3.576 or better.Lindenwood (Mo.) led the golf squads with a 3.886 team GPA.…Jason Burton, women’s head basketball coach at Texas
A&M-Commerce, has had his contract extended through the 2021season.
He has been head of the Lions’ program for the past four seasons.His record at TAMUC is 68-48.Burton has a bachelor’s degree from Austin College and a
master’s from TAMUC.

Services were pending atpress time for former Texas A&Ifootball player Jorge Rodriguez,who passed away last week at aHouston hospital.
Rodriguez, 51, was a 6-6, 300-pound offensive lineman for theJavelinas in 1986-89 and duringthat period the Javelinascompiled a 38-8 record, won twoLone Star Conference titles,reached the NCAA Division IIplayoffs twice and advancedinto the national semifinals in1988.
He was an All-LSC honoreeas a junior and senior.
Rodriguez played high schoolfootball at Houston Lee and heand his family were living inCorpus Christi.

LSC Volleyball Teams to Face Opponents From 22 States
ReturneeMadison Brabham, 5-10 seniorfrom Kingwood, is a returnee forthe Javelina volleyball team thisfall.
The Lone Star Conferencevolleyball teams will playopponents from 22 states this fall.
The league has long had astrong interregional schedule in allof its sports.
States represented on theconference schedules are Alaska,Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut,Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana,Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota,Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska,New Mexico, North Dakota, NorthCarolina, Oklahoma, SouthDakota, Tennessee, Texas andUtah.
Texas A&M-Kingsville’svolleyball squad has teams fromseven states on its slate. Theseare Arkansas, Connecticut,Florida, Michigan, New Mexico,Oklahoma and Texas.
The first LSC team in actionwill be Western New Mexico whengoes to Alaska-Anchorage Aug.23.

Javelina Hall of FamerJohn Randle, defensive lineman for the Javelina football team in 1988and 1989, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, andbecame the third Javelina to be inducted. The Javelinas are one of thefew schools with as many as three in the Hall. Eugene Upshaw andDarrell Green are the other two. Randle, from Hearne, was an All-American for the Javelinas and signed as a free agent with the Minne-sota Vikings after his collegiate career. He was an All-Pro honoreeand lives in the Minneapolis area. He is also a member of the CollegeFootball Hall of Fame, NCAA Division II Hall of Fame and Javelina Hallof Fame. The 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshirement ceremonywill be held Aug. 4 in Canton, Ohio.
Texas A&I continues to rankamong the universities with themost members of the Pro FootballHall of Fame.
The Javelinas have threeplayers in the Hall.
