Saggu, District Chairman - Rotaract Date: February 10, 2017 (Friday) Time: 6.30 p.m. Venue: Hotel President, Sector 26, Chandigarh Mrs. Rajwant In our regular meeting on February 03, 2017 President Rtn. Amarjit Singh welcomed the Chief Guest Sr. Teacher Mrs. Rajwant who was accompanied by another teacher Mr. Haripal Singh Yadav and the students of Govt. Model High School, Manimajra. The President handed over the proceedings to the organizer of the program, R’ann Renu Chopra, who introduced Mrs. Rajwant as an asset to the school and an all rounder, very good in computing, folk dance and even singing. She is the person behind this nukkar natak, having written and directed the same. In his brief address Haripal Singh Yadav lauded the efforts of our club for carrying out various projects in the school. He said, “The contribution of your club to our school is so great that it is known as ‘Rotarians ka school’.” As a teacher he admits that whatever Rotary is doing for the school, also inspires the teachers so much that they too get more involved towards giving their best to the students. Haripal Singh Yadav The students, all girls, gave a very impressive performance with a very clear message which also had punches of Haryanvi humour. The play starts with birth of a girl child. On behalf of Rotary, Rtn. Salil Chopra presents a gift to the child. The father is not happy as now he has 3 daughters. When they grow up they resist doing ‘jharoo pocha’, and tell the mother that they want to study, but the father does not agree. When one of the girl gets married the mother-in-law dominates her, and the husband makes fun of her illiteracy. The husband wants her to study but she refuses, and even made the teacher run away who was engaged by the husband. When the husband asks for water she brings ‘tamator’. When he asks for a towel she gives him ‘chawal’. He takes her to a party where she tells other ladies, pointing at the husband, “woh mera ‘hand pump’ hai aur mein uski ‘pipe’. Husband gets very annoyed and asks her for divorce. Now she tells him to give her another chance. She would like to study. But where? The husband says she can go to Rotary Club where they have Adult Literacy program under Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM). The play ends with all the girls saying as one loud voice, “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.” There was a loud applause from all present. Nukkar Natak – Theme : Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

Dental health and hygiene

Dental Health and hygiene awareness talks were given to the students of Govt. Schools in Manimajra and Chandigarh during the week. Large number of students of the schools benefitted from this program.

A team of doctors from the clinic of Rtn. Dr. Sanjay Kalra took up the dental matters, explaining to students how to take care of their teeth. Continuing with his weekly projects, Rtn. Salil Chopra with R’ann Renu Chopra talked to the students about hygiene and other important issues of life.
