Research

Best Practice e.g.

– Development of volunteers

– Promotion of activities

– Successful events / fundraising

Funding Opportunities

Other projects and potential partnerships in South Sudan

As a new charity we are constantly evolving. We want to learn from the good practice of other charities and organisations to improve our practices and ensure that we work effectively to have the

most impact in South Sudan.

Draft Bid Writers

• Work with a small team of volunteers to co-ordinate bid writing

• Drafting bids for funding opportunities agreed by the Trustees

• Working with the fundraising arm of FIGS to share knowledge and feedback on bids

• Identifying opportunities for future finding bids

Currently the work in Ibba has only just begun. We have some buildings underway but it will cost a lot more to ensure we have the facilities to create a school for 360 girls. Although individual

donations and fundraising help we need larger funding from other sources as well.

Celebrating South Sudan’s Independence

• Working with a small group of volunteers, trustees and South Sudanese diaspora to consider ideas for the celebration

• Organise the logistics of the celebration e.g.

• Venue

• Promotion / Invitees

• Activities

South Sudan became an independent nation on 9th July 2011 – the newest democracy in the world. FIGS will be helping to mark this event here in London and we would like your ideas and support

funding for the building works, Bridget has donated her own land for the site of the school.

Fundraising

• Encourage sign up to “The Ibba 1000” – where 1,000 each commit to raising £250 individually for FIGS

• Help to run large fundraising activities e.g. charity abseils

• Identify opportunities to raise funding for Corporate Social Responsibility Fundraising

There are many opportunities for the London arm of FIGS to help meet the fundraising targets including bid writing, promotion within schools. However for 2013 we would like to raise (at least)

£5,000 towards these targets and we need your help to do that.

• Discuss project ideas and fundraising opportunities

• Keep the communities informed of the progress happening in Ibba

• Help to identify other South Sudanese communities in the UK and inform them of the work of the charity

We want to ensure that the work that we do here in London effectively represents the charity and the people of South Sudan. We want to work with the established South Sudanese communities in London (and other parts of the UK) to ensure that they are

influencing the work we do.

Administration Support

• Maintaining databases:

– London FIGS volunteers

– South Sudanese Diaspora

– Donors to FIGS

• Create advertising material for events

• Create presentations for meetings

• Write up website articles on activities / events

It may not sound like the most glamorous volunteering job but it is essential for FIGS to run effectively and efficiently. What this work does mean is that you can offer your support to the

charity at a time that is convenient to you – there will be no time commitment to attend meetings if you do not want to / can’t, the work can be done virtually.
