VCMC

The East Volusia Anti-Mosquito District formed in a local “Lions” club and passed by the State Legislature on June 11, 1937.

Intent is to contend with massive influxes of salt marsh produced mosquitoes.

The entire 500+ square mile district was covered with a five (5) man crew.

VCMCWPA workers dig miles of ditches by hand.

1940’s/1950’s: draglines and dynamite used.District purchased its first aircraft

in 1949.
