But in between the arguments over what colour borders each page should have and how many photos should be in the social diary, something dawned on us. Every month we receive loads of pic- tures of beautiful young women from around the country. Although we are al- ways delighted to print them and proud to show them off in our pages, we felt we could do more. In fact we felt these young women deserved more. The thinking caps were put on and we set about coming up with a way we could show off beautiful Traveller women both to the wider and Traveller community. That’s how the “Beauty Has No Bound- aries” Calendar was born. We immediately got to work. Olga, who is good at these things, started to de- sign a poster that would let all Traveller women in Ireland know of our plan. VIP magazine, Ireland’s top celebrity and style magazine heard about what we were doing and decided they wanted to get involved. “Show us the girls” they said, “And if they are pretty enough, we’ll put them in our magazine as well”. It was a very proud day , when, our editor Sinead went up t o Dublin, with photos in hand, to the VIP offices. VIP editor Michael and top Irish model  Andrea Roche took a look and were amazed. 12 girls were selected by these two beauty industry experts and all that was left to do was to take their pictures and transform them into calen- dar stars.  After phone calls to all the girls, it was decided that Dublin would be the easi- est shoot location for everyone. No. 10 Ormond Quay was booked, a beautiful Georgian House which has been beau- tifully restored by its owner. At 9am, Friday 13th April (we weren’t scared by the date!) we all trooped in, through the marble rooms and tip-toed past the an- tiques on display. Hair, make-up and wardrobe set to work on each girl. The stylist Tanya probably had the hardest  job of all as a few of the VOT staff were spotted playing with some of the jew- ellery and handbags when they should have been working… On hand to help on the day was Emer, a lady from VIP magazine who really knew her stuff. Working with Kip Car- roll, the photographer, Emer set up each pose and also gave all the girls make-up and clothes a once over be- fore they were photographed. It was a long day for everyone but it was well worth it. Emer used the few quiet times during the day to interview the girls for an art icle she will be writing for VIP magazine. Some of the photos taken on the day will also feature be- side her piece. The “Voice of the Traveller” is delighted with our new calendar and very proud of our cover girls. A lot of patience was needed on the day as there was a lot of waiting around between shots, but our girls were professional throughout and as I think you’ll agree all the hard work was definitely worth it. It all began on a cold and wet Wednes-

day in January. The “Voice of the Trav-

eller” team were busy working on the

new and improved look of the maga-zine. But in between the arguments

over what colour borders each page

should have and how many photos

should be in the social diary, something

dawned on us.

Every month we receive loads of pic-

tures of beautiful young women from

around the country. Although we are al-

ways delighted to print them and proud

to show them off in our pages, we felt

we could do more. In fact we felt these

young women deserved more. The

thinking caps were put on and we set

about coming up with a way we could

show off beautiful Traveller women both

to the wider and Traveller community.

That’s how the “Beauty Has No Bound-

aries” Calendar was born.

We immediately got to work. Olga, who

is good at these things, started to de-

sign a poster that would let all Traveller

women in Ireland know of our plan.

Sinead and Julieanne worked the

phones and lined up make-up artists,

stylists and hairdressers. The posters

went out, the photos came in and we

were on our way. Then something very

exciting happened...

VIP magazine, Ireland’s top celebrity

and style magazine heard about what

we were doing and decided they

wanted to get involved. “Show us the

girls” they said, “And if they are pretty

enough, we’ll put them in our magazine

as well”. It was a very proud day, when,

our editor Sinead went up t o Dublin,

with photos in hand, to the VIP offices.

VIP editor Michael and top Irish model

Andrea Roche took a look and were

amazed. 12 girls were selected by

these two beauty industry experts and

all that was left to do was to take their

pictures and transform them into calen-

dar stars.

After phone calls to all the girls, it was

decided that Dublin would be the easi-

est shoot location for everyone. No. 10

Ormond Quay was booked, a beautiful

Georgian House which has been beau-

tifully restored by its owner. At 9am,

Friday 13th April (we weren’t scared by

the date!) we all trooped in, through the

marble rooms and tip-toed past the an-

tiques on display. Hair, make-up and

wardrobe set to work on each girl. The

stylist Tanya probably had the hardest

job of all as a few of the VOT staff were

spotted playing with some of the jew-

ellery and handbags when they should

have been working…

On hand to help on the day was Emer,

a lady from VIP magazine who really

knew her stuff. Working with Kip Car-

roll, the photographer, Emer set up

each pose and also gave all the girls

make-up and clothes a once over be-

fore they were photographed.

It was a long day for everyone but it

was well worth it. Emer used the few

quiet times during the day to interview

the girls for an art icle she will be writing

for VIP magazine. Some of the photos

taken on the day will also feature be-

side her piece.

The “Voice of the Traveller” is delighted

with our new calendar and very proud

of our cover girls. A lot of patience was

needed on the day as there was a lotof waiting around between shots, but

our girls were professional throughout

and as I think you’ll agree all the hard

work was definitely worth it.
