Coach Stanley has been coaching for 24 years. He was an assistant at Ponder from 2000 to 2004, and was part of the 2001 state championship staff. Coach Stanley be-came the head coach of Sanger High School in 2004 and returned to Ponder to become the Athletic Director/Head Boys Basketball Coach in 2009. Coach Stanley led the Lions to the 2010 State Championship in his first year as the head coach at Ponder. In 2014, Coach Stanley again led the Lions to a state championship, the school's fifth. Coach Stanley has a career record of 373 wins and 133 losses. Coach Stanley has served on the TABC board of directors. He has also been an all-regional coordinator for 13 years. Coach Stanley and his wife Amy have been married 12 years and have 2 children, 8 year old Jason and 5 year old Emma. Amy teaches 4th grade at Ponder Elementary.

I hope everyone enjoyed watching March Madness as much as I did. Lots of great 3pt shooting, stout defense, dancing Cinder-ella’s, and some incredible game winning shots! My men’s bracket was busted the first weekend, but what a great tournament! And how about the perseverance of the Notre Dame women’s team? Winning a National Title with only seven healthy scholarship play-ers is just incredible. As we all work and plan for next season, don’t miss out on some tremendous information at our 2018 Clinic. A successful Varsity Boys’ Basketball coach and proven leader with 33 years of experience, Mike Carrabine is committed to serving as President of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) if elected. Coach Carrabine has coached high school basketball in Texas since 1985. 31 of the 33 years he has served as a head basketball coach at various levels including Houston St. Thomas (1985-92), Sweeny (1992-94), Crosby (1994-97), Fort Bend Dulles (1997-2017), & Bryan Rudder this past season, (2017-2018). Carrabine led his 1990 St. Thomas team to the state title, Dulles to the 1999 5A-Region III finals, as well as the 2008 Texas state 5A runner up to North Crowley. Coach Carrabine has also won several Coach of the Year awards in his career. Coach Carrabine has been a TABC member since 1984. He served on the TABC Board of Directors from 2012-2015. Additional-ly, he was the TABC 6A Region III coordinator for four seasons (2013-2017). This past season, he served as the 18-5A representative for the 5A region –III All Region committee. Also heavily in-volved with the Houston Area Basketball Coaches Association (HABCA), Carrabine has been an active member since HABCA’s inception in 1992. He served as a Board member for three years (2012-2015) before becoming president of HABCA (2015-2016).

The Texas Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2018 includes Gary Sibley, Noel John-ston, Phil McNeely, Carl Irbeck, Tony Harper, Robert Capello, Angela Lawson and

Sue Janes-Caddell. This deserving group of Texas legends will be inducted during Hall of Fame at the TABC clinic in the Coronado Ballroom at the El Tropicano Hotel in San Antonio on Saturday, May 19 at 6:00 pm. Tickets to the banquet can be purchased by calling 281-313-8222. General pub-lic tickets are $35. TABC members may purchase tickets for a discounted rate of $20. No banquet tickets will be sold at the door but gallery seat-ing will be available to anyone wanting to attend the ceremony.

The banquet is scheduled for July 21, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk Hotel, 123 Losoya St., San Antonio, Texas.

TABC Clinic Golf Tournament

The 15th Annual TABC Golf Tournament will be held Thursday,

May 17 at Canyon Springs Golf Club in San Antonio. The shotgun start is at 8:00, giving you

enough time to have a great morning on the course and still make it to the first clinic speaker

that afternoon. The $70 entry fee includes your green fee, gold cart, range balls and lunch.

The tournament is open to the first 128 TABC members who sign up. The entry form can be

found on the TABC web site at www.tabchoops.org. Just select the Clinic button and then the

Golf Entry button to get the registration form.
