Heindl Energy GmbH, based in Stuttgart (Germany), develops a concept of a new generation of gravity power storage. The concept of a Hydraulic Hydro Storage (HHS) aims to store and provide electricity in so far unknown quantities over long periods of time. The design is based on the hydraulic lifting of a large body of rock. Electric pumps, which are already used in pumped storage power stations, will pump water underneath a cylinder of rock and thereby lift it. The pumps will operate on surplus wind and solar power. In times of insufficient renewable electricity generation that water, being under high pressure from the rock above it, will power a turbine and thus produce electricity, just like in a standard hydropower plant. The concept bares a huge economic benefit, because the storage capacity is increasing by 4th power with each additional meter of radius, while costs for construction will rise only by 2nd power.

The “Building The Action Plan”™ session is a unique feature of the Energy Storage World Forum and it has been specifically designed to be an integral part of the past 3 Conference Days. It is tailored according to the 2014 delegates needs. How? After listening to all the 50+ presentations of the past 3 days, delegates are asked to list their top 3 challenges that they would like to solve. Then the audience will be split into groups according to their challenge preference and expertise. At this point each team will examine solutions and come up with an action plan for each of their chosen challenge. Finally the team leader from each group will then share the results with the whole audience so that everyone else can benefit from other groups’ ideas. This has proven to be an invaluable session that will give you a tangible action list that you can take back to your office and help you in your strategy and technology meetings. It will also consolidate your learning from the past 3 days. Champagne will be served during this session. The results from this sessions will be put forward to the new energy technologies department at the European Commission.
