Bakkum-Gamez, MD Dr. Jamie Bakkum-Gamez is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Gynecologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin, followed by residency and a subspecialty fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Mayo. Dr. Bakkum-Gamez is Co-Leader of the Women ‘s Cancer Program at Mayo Clinic and is the Quality Chair of the Department. Her primary translational research focuses on early detection strategies and novel therapeutics in endometrial cancer. Her clinical research focuses on the study of quality, safety, and value in gynecologic surgery. DISTINGUISHED FACULTY Julia Johnson, MD Dr. Julia Johnson is Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Massachusetts since 2009. Following a Master’s program at Emory University, she attended medical school and residency at the Medical College of Georgia, followed by a subspecialty fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at the University of Texas in San Antonio. Dr. Johnson is nationally known for her research in the areas of menopause, hormone therapy, and contraceptives. She was chair of the CME committee and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Michael Bebbington, MD, MHSc Dr. Bebbington is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Director of the Fetal Care Center at Washington University at St. Louis, Missouri. He completed medical school and residency at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, followed by a Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship and Master of Health Sciences at University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and a second MFM fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Bebbington is known internationally as a fetal interventionist. He specializes in both open and fetoscopic surgery, treating complex monochorionic twin pregnancies such as those affected with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), twin reverse arterial perfusion sequence (TRAP), selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR) and discordant anomalies. James M. Shwayder, MD, JD Dr. James M. Shwayder, MD, JD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Mississippi. He attended medical school at the University of Colorado, followed by residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He also obtained a law degree from the University of Denver. Presently, Dr. Shwayder practices minimally invasive surgery and gynecologic ultrasound. Dr. Jamie N. Bakkum-Gamez, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mayo Clinic, who will discuss how to achieve “enhanced recovery” after surgery by implementing a multimodal approach directed at optimizing the patient experience, standardizing perioperative care and improving outcomes. Jamie N. Bakkum-Gamez, MDDr. Jamie Bakkum-Gamez is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Gynecologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
