June 4, 2017 June 4 Pentecost Happy Birthday to the Church! Fifty days after the beginning of Passover, Jewish people celebrated Pentecost ("fiftieth day"), a festival of first fruits which marked the end of the Passover season. On the first Day of Pentecost after Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension, the Holy Spirit came in a mighty way to the disciples who were gathered in the upper room (Acts 2:121 ), appearing as tongues of fire above their heads. From that time on, they forgot all their fears and boldly proclaimed God's salvation through Jesus Christ. We remember this as the birthday of the church and will celebrate with Birthday Cake and Lemonade on the Lawn after the 11 o'clock service this Sunday. Be sure to wear RED to church!
