Introduction Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Science (hereinafter referred to as “SIAT”), offers 10 Master's Degree programs and 2 PhD Degree programs to international students. The duration of a Master program is 2-3 years, and a PhD program 3-6 years. A degree certificate and a graduation certificate will be awarded to those who have completed the prescribed courses and passed thesis/dissertation defense. Application Procedure 1The completed application form for Admission of International Students (please download the form at http://grad.siat.ac.cn). The photo adhered on the application form must be identical with that on the passport. 2. Personal statement. Applicants to PhD programs should also submit a research proposal. 3. A certified or notarized copy of the degree certificate, a certified or notarized copy of the academic transcript, and an officially sealed original copy of the academic transcript. Notarized translations to English or to Chinese of the degree certificate and the academic transcript are also required, if they are in a language other than English and Chinese. 4. Two recommendation letters from academics at the level of associate professor or above. The letter must indicate the referee's phone number and email address. 5. Copy of the page with personal information in the passport. None of the above application documents will be returned.     Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of

    Science (hereinafter referred to as SIAT) offers the visiting student

    program and exchange student program to international students.

    International students who would like to undertake research work at SIAT

    as a visiting student or exchange student may apply to Graduate

    Students Office. It is recommended that before submitting applications,

    the applicant should get in touch with his/her prospective supervisor at

    SIAT and discuss the research plan with the supervisor. International

    students who are recommended by our partner institutions may apply for

    the exchange student program, otherwise they should apply for the

    visiting student program.

    The duration of the visiting student program and the exchange

    student program ranges from 3 months to 2 years. Upon successful

    completion, a non-degree certificate of advanced study will be awarded

    to the visiting or exchange student.

    All the programs are offered in English.

    Applicants to the visiting student program or exchange student

    program should:

    have obtain a bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized

    institution or obtained an equivalent qualification; and

    satisfy SIAT's requirements on physical fitness for pursuing the

    program.

    Language Requirements:

    Students enrolled at SIAT can choose to take all courses and

    conduct research activities in English only, or in Chinese

    (Mandarin). Knowledge of the Chinese language is not required.

    Applications with TOEFL or IELTS records (within two years from

    the examination date) are preferred.

    There is no constraint on the field of study for the visiting student or

    exchange student program.

    8. Visa Application and Admission Registration

    The admitted students should bring their Passport, invitation letter

    as well as Visa Application Form for Foreigners to the Embassy or

    Consulate of the People's Republic of China and apply for a L visa. The

    students shall come to Graduate Students Office for admission

    registration before the deadline indicated on the Admission Notice. The L

    visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days after

    arriving in China. Compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan

    should have valid entry permits.

    As a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Southern

    China, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) was jointly

    established by the Chinese Academy of Science and Shenzhen

    municipal government in February 2006. SIAT is composed of the

    Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Integration Technology (SIIT), Institute of

    Biomedical and Health Engineering (IBHE), Institute of Advanced

    Computing and Digital Engineering (IACDE), Open Technology Platform,

    Engineering Center, Incubation Center, CAS Electric Vehicle R&D Center,

    CAS Key Laboratory of Biomedical Informatics and Health Engineering

    and an administrative department; at the same time, an academic

    committee and an industrial committee were established.
