r I would like our members who vote in Alameda County to consider Measure A

Measure A would keep the current sales tax rate the same in Alameda County if the state wide proposition would fail All the income generated by the difference between the state rate and the county rate would go to law enforcement

The money would go to the Sherifr s Department District Attorney and Public Defenders office and the Probation Department These departments have been operating on less money every year for the last three years as a result of this there have been cuts in personnel and programs

As we have all heard read and seen crime and criminals have been on the rise especially violent crimes

Many innovative programs which directly effect Asian juvenile offenders have been cut from the Probation Department One particular program cut this year coordinated services for Asian youth Previously Asian Mental Health provided counselling while two probation officers were specifically assigned to all Asian probation cases Now Asian youths on probation are assigned geographically to probation officers who may not understand the particular problems of being and Asian youth

Remember it is the Probation Department that incarcerates and rehabilitates our youth in this county Only the hard core youth are sent away to the Youth Authority (the CQuivalent of San Quentin for minors)

The Probation Department give our youth a second chance at becoming productive citizens

Please vote Yes on Measure A
