Bandaged Bear Day
Congratulations to Miss Leary and Mrs Gillett for your organisation of the Bandaged
Bear activities. The hospital was a huge success with many sick or injured bears
being treated by our wonderful doctors and nurses.
Lunch time was a hive of noise, laughter and activity in the hall with the Bandage
Up Your Buddy competition.
Overall, in excess of $300 was raised. All proceeds of this day will go to the West-
mead Children’s Hospital.
Wagga High School Taster Day
This Thursday, Year 6 students will travel to Wagga Wagga High School to partici-
pate in a range of activities to help them gain an understanding of high school life
and to alleviate some anxieties about transitioning to high school next year.
Major Assembly and Easter Hat Parade
Major Assembly will be held on the last Thursday of term. Following this will be our
Easter Hat Parade and morning tea. Please remember that Easter hats are to be
made at home and brought to school on Thursday. At the conclusion of the Easter
Hat Parade, visitors are welcome to have morning tea at school with their child.
Reward Day
Reward Day will be held on Friday 12th April (the last day of term). This is to reward
students for their good behaviour and consistent work habits. Students who have
received 5 or more pink or red slips, or who have received a detention are ineligible
to attend and will remain at school.
Early Stage 1, Stage 1 and Stage 2 will be going to play in the park and participate
in an Easter Egg hunt. There is no cost for these activities.
Stage 3 will be travelling by bus to visit the students of Ladysmith School to have
lunch and play touch football. Lunch can be ordered if desired from Ladysmith, with
the proceeds being donated to Diabetes Australia. Permission notes, lunch orders
and money must be returned by Monday 8th April 2019.

I am pleased to confirm that our school will be participating in an exciting
new research project on teacher professional development. The research is
being undertaken by the University of Newcastle, commencing in Term 1,
2019. Children will be invited to participate in this project if their teacher is
involved. Invitations will be sent out to relevant classes in due course.
Participating students will complete some surveys and assessments as part
of their usual school activities. All names will be removed and only student
numbers will be given to the research team so that they can link survey and
assessment results with NAPLAN and school attendance data.
If you do not want the research team to have access to this data, you can opt
-out on your child’s behalf. For further information about the research, please visit the research website at www.newcastle.edu.au/QTR or call the research team on (02) 49215351
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy – important skills that each child
needs to succeed in school and life. The NAPLAN tests are designed to help
us make sure students are on track with their literacy and numeracy develop-
ment. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests for read-
ing, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
and numeracy.
Between 14th – 24th May, 2019 our school will participate in NAPLAN Online.
Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test
online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curric-
ulum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online for-
mat. To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN
Online, visit the public demonstration site.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child ’s
teacher.

EASTER HAT PARADE
Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday, 11th April immediately after Major Assembly.
Start thinking about your creations and get busy! Due to our Major Assembly occurring first, all stu-
dents must wear full school uniform on the day.
Parents are welcome to stay and enjoy recess with their child/children. An assortment of refresh-
ments will be available for purchase from the school canteen.
We look forward to seeing all of your wonderful Easter hat creations again this year.
SOFTBALL REPORT
Softball Superstars Congratulations to the PSSA Girls Softball team who on Thursday the 28th of
March headed to French Fields. They hit, pitched, caught and slid their way to a huge 21-1 victo-ry over Ashmont PS in round 1. Their run unfortunately, came to an end in round 2 with a nar-row 18-15 loss to a very polished Lake Albert PS. The girls should be proud of their amazing sportsmanship and effort throughout the knockout. The future is looking bright for WWPS Soft-ball!! A big thanks must go to all the parents who helped coach, drove students, scored and most importantly cheered on the day.

BREAKFAST CLUB
WWPS Breakfast Club
Next term, for the first time at Wagga Wagga Public School, we will
be introducing a Breakfast Club.
The Breakfast Club will begin in Term 2, Week 2, and will be run every Thursday morning from 8.40 to 9.10am, in the school hall.
Why a Breakfast Club?
A healthy breakfast sets our students up to concentrate, learn and be at their best. With the connection between diet, nutrition, learning and development, we believe it is important to ensure that all children have access to a healthy breakfast and positive start to the school day. Breakfast Clubs are also about more than providing our students with a healthy start to the day. They're a great place for adults and student leaders to be role models for healthy eating, teach responsibility and also provide a safe and welcoming environment.
All students are welcome to join us, however, to minimise an abundance of students, the Breakfast Club is aimed at students who were unable to receive a wholesome breakfast that morning, for whatever reason that may be.
The Breakfast Club will be run and organised by school staff, canteen, P&C, student leaders and parent volunteers.
We’d like to give a big thank you to Woolworths and Kellogg’s who will be providing all of the food.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.
