LAST WEEK’S RESULTS PLUS THIS WEEK’S TEAM LISTS INSIDE
For more club rugby coverage go to www.mooloocommunityrugby.co.nz
Otorohanga 23 - Fraser Tech 22
The rematch of last year's grand final produced a thrill-
ing match that Otorohanga won by one point at Island
Reserve.
Otorohanga ran in four tries - to prop Whetu Barber, lock
Anthony Wise, and wings Sekove Seriki and Solo
Korovata. Second five Joe Perawiti added a penalty.
Tech scored their points from tries to loose forward
Simon Humble, wing Matt Kenny and No 8 Alex Suttie,
plus two conversions and a penalty to Chauncy Edward-
son.
Hamilton Old Boys 39 - Melville 21
Hamilton Old Boys are now the only undefeated team
after handing Melville their first loss in 2013 at Fred Jones
Park.
Old Boys also made it their second straight bonus point
win thanks to tries from prop Tom de Malmanche, wings
Sione Tupa and Regan Ware and centre Rena Schuster.
Fullback Kane Adams kicked two conversions and five
penalties.
Melville was still close at halftime but Old Boys pulled
away in the second half. Wing Joey Fluhler continued his
hot form with two tries while fullback Jimmy Horsford
also dotted down for the second straight week, with first
five Brook Tremayne converting all three tries.
Hautapu 32 - University 25
Hautapu got their first win of the season with a bonus
point victory over University at Memorial Park.
Flanker Stefan Destounis, halfback Ruan du Plooy and
wing Ruamai Erueti scored Hautapu's tries, with a penalty
try securing the bonus point. First five Liam Eldridge
added three conversions, a penalty and a late drop goal to
make the game safe.
University came away from the game with two bonus
points for their efforts. Second five Joe Murray, prop Tau
Koloamatangi, and replacements Dayne Tiffany and Wil-
liam Mango scored Uni's four tries, with a Tiffany conver-
sion and a James Loto penalty completing the scoring.
Hamilton Marist 40 - Morrinsville Sports 34
Hamilton Marist picked up their second win of the sea-
son, away to Morrinsville Sports in a high scoring match
at Campbell Park.
Marist scored four tries, with two to centre Niko Malo
and one each to wings Josh Fa'agalu and Brad Hills. First
five Jason Kjestrup had a good day with the boot - nailing
all four conversions as well as four penalties.
Morrinsville outscored Marist five tries to four and de-
served their two bonus points. Their tries came from prop
Mark Verner, wings Jason Chambers and Reggie Sikivou,
centre Atu Masirewa and loose forward Josh Janmaat.
First five Josh O'Flaherty added two conversions and a
penalty and replacement Nico Ezekiela kicked a conver-
sion.
Te Awamutu Sports 75 - Te Rapa 22
Te Awamutu Sports produced a fine performance to
dispatch Te Rapa at Albert Park.
The home side scored eleven tries with fullback Hayden
Ivil crossing four times and loose forward Chris Middle-
ton and halfback Luke Parsons scoring twice. Wing Nanai
Naturaga, second five Leon Emery and hooker Tevita
Muipu also got on the scoresheet while first five Todd
Doolan kicked ten conversions.
Despite never being in the contest Te Rapa did manage a
few points, with tries to flankers Richard Deadman (2)
and Arron Kelly, and replacement Blair Webber, plus a
conversion to second five Jordan Cameron. The four tries
saw them take a bonus point from the game.
Old Boys go to top of the table, Otorohanga bounce back with a win,
and Te Awamutu Sports deal to Te Rapa.
PREMIER WEEK 2 REVIEW

A highlight of the round will be the clash between Te Awamutu Sports and Hamilton Marist while two
winless teams, Morrinsville Sports and University, face off at Campbell Park.
Round 3 Saturday 6 April 2013
All games kick-off at 2:45pm
Fraser Tech vs Te Rapa
Mill Street, Hamilton
Last year’s grand finalists Fraser Tech take on premier
new boys Te Rapa at Mill Street. Fraser Tech recorded a first round win over Te Awamutu
Sports but then had a narrow loss to Otorohanga.
Te Rapa followed up a great first round upset of Hautapu with a poor effort against Te Awamutu Sports – conced-
ing 75 points. It doesn’t get any easier with a trip to Fraser
Tech. Tech will be heavy favourites to take this game out in
front of their home fans but Te Rapa will be keen to prove
round one was no fluke and put in an improved perform-ance.
Hamilton Old Boys vs Hautapu
Fred Jones Park, Hamilton
Top of the table Hamilton Old Boys host Hautapu at
Fred Jones Park. Old Boys have got off to a flyer in 2013 with bonus point
wins over University and Melville in the opening two
rounds. Hautapu managed their first win last weekend, over
University, after earlier losses to Te Awamutu Sports and
Te Rapa.
Old Boys should be confident of their third straight win
and this will be a big step up for Hautapu but they are
definitely capable.
Morrinsville Sports vs University
Campbell Park, Morrinsville
Ninth and tenth place, Morrinsville Sports and Univer-
sity, square off at Campbell Park.
Morrinsville have been unlucky not to come away with
more from their first two games – a three-point loss to Melville and a six-point loss to Marist – and will be keen
to take on another team without a win.
University have so far had losses to Hamilton Old Boys and Hautapu but are a quality young side with a lot of
potential.
Both teams will be desperate for a win and look evenly matched so this should be an intriguing battle.
Otorohanga vs Melville
Island Reserve, Otorohanga
Defending champions Otorohanga play their second straight home game when they face Melville at Island
Reserve.
Otorohanga responded to an opening round loss to Ham-ilton Marist with a thrilling one-point win over Fraser
Tech.
Melville started the year well with wins over Hamilton Marist and Morrinsville Sports but suffered their first loss
last weekend against Hamilton Old Boys.
Despite their solid start to the season this will be a tough road trip for Melville as Otorohanga are always very
tough to beat at home.
Te Awamutu Sports vs Hamilton Marist
Albert Park, Te Awamutu
Two sides to make solid starts to 2013, Te Awamutu
Sports and Hamilton Marist, will play at Albert Park. Te Awamutu Sports have had good wins over Hautapu
and Te Rapa, with a loss to Fraser Tech in between, and
have shown that scoring points will not be a problem for them this season with 132 points in three games.
Marist are quickly improving after a first up loss to Mel-ville, bouncing back with bonus point wins over Otoro-
hanga and Morrinsville Sports.
This game is tough to call but should be an entertaining match between two quality teams.

COMPLETE WAIKATO CLUB RUGBY DRAW FOR SATURDAY 6 APRIL 2013
Waikato makes a couple of signings for the 2013 season, while preparations for the pre-season
Ranfurly Shield match in Morrinsville are well underway.
2013 WAIKATO SQUAD TAKING SHAPE
Waikato has secured the services of two Super Rugby front rowers and resigned a couple of key players for
their upcoming ITM Cup and Ranfurly Shield cam-
paigns. Last month Waikato signed Highlanders hooker Bray-
den Mitchell to a two year deal and have now secured
the signature of Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna, also for two years.
Both players are former New Zealand under 20 repre-
sentatives. 21-year-old Tameifuna has spent the last two ITM
Cup seasons with Hawke’s Bay. He is currently in his
second season with the Chiefs and the move will allow him to live in Hamilton permanently.
Mitchell, 24, spent three seasons with Southland and
is in his third year with the Highlanders, and will pro-vide some much needed depth at the hooker position
for Waikato after the retirement of Marcel Cummings-
Toone. Waikato coach Chris Gibbes said “Brayden and Ben
are already established professional rugby players at
such a young age and we are excited to be able to add two talented, young front rowers to our squad.”
Two key Waikato players over the past few seasons – flanker Jack Lam and centre Save Tokula – have also
resigned for 2013 and will add valuable experience to
the squad. Waikato will also welcome back midfielder Watene
Waenga, who played two games for the province in
2007-08, after a stint playing in Australia. He has
signed a two year contract.
These additions and resignings are timely as Waikato
prepares for the 2013 season without last year’s captain Alex Bradley and Marcel Cummings-Toone (both
retired) and also Richard Kahui and Ben May (both off
to Japan after Super Rugby).
MORRINSVILLE RANFURLY SHIELD
CHALLENGE UPDATE
Preparations for the Waikato versus Horowhenua-Kapiti Ranfurly Shield match at Morrinsville in July are
well underway.
Waikato-based meat processing company Greenlea Premier Meats will be the official match day sponsor
for the first Ranfurly Shield match of 2013.
Greenlea Premier Meats, who fittingly have process-ing plants in Hamilton and Morrinsville, were the win-
ners of the 2012 Waikato Business Excellence Supreme
Award and the Waikato Rugby Union is delighted to welcome on board such a successful local business.
Waikato Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer Gra-
ham Bowen said “We are pleased to have a well re-spected business like Greenlea Premier Meats on board
for this match. Their strong presence in the Waikato
region, and in particular the Morrinsville community, makes them an ideal fit for this fixture and we look
forward to working with them.”
Greenlea Premier Meats is also the major sponsor of the Greenlea Rescue helicopter which is likely to be
involved in the match day entertainment.
Other match logistics for the July 17 fixture at Camp-bell Park are progressing well with the Waikato Rugby
Union being assisted by the Morrinsville Rugby Sub-Union.
Interaction with local businesses and school visits
from players in the weeks leading up to the game are being planned, while match day hospitality and catering
packages are being developed.
The Waikato Rugby Union is also looking to hold a
Mooloo Parade in Morrinsville on the Saturday before
the match.
Presale tickets for the match will be $10 for adults and $2 for children with the low child price aimed at bring-
ing in a large young audience during the school holi-
days. These will be available from selected outlets in Morrinsville at the beginning of May.
