GLOBE Too. 7: Dana ANDREWS TOWN TAMER Michael CAINft THE ITALIAN i JOB The second Jamaica Film Festival opens tonight at 8.00 o'clock at the State Theatre with the screen- ing of The People's Republic of China's entry "THE WHITE HAIRED GIRL" and the con- troversial U.S. film about a Black people's revolu- tion "THE SPOOK WHO SAT BY THE DOOR" at 9.30 p.m. The opening day has been dubbed "International Day". probably because of the marked difference between the Chinese entry which fea- tures the Republic's Modern Revolutionary Ballet, and the violent "Spook" which should have been screened last year, but suffered at the hands of the censors.. Sam Greenlee. writer of the "Spook", last year during his visit to the first Festival called the censors action signs of "a- frightened oligarchy." The opening night will also be centred on youth as the South St. Andrew School of Music, a newly formed band of about 35 people from the Trench Town <area under the guidance of drummer Sparrow Martin, and rang- ing in age from seven to 14, and the St. Anne Dancers from Western Kingston will be featured on stage. Other dates for screening are: Monday. August 11, "West Indian Day." the films will be: "BIM" a Trinidadian Production produced by Raul Pantin. and "The Long Night" a U.S. film. Wednesday, August 13 the \j films are "Rio Grande" an A.P.I, production; "Begin- ! nings" by Media Mix » directed by Lennie Little- White; "The Greatest Show On Earth, U : S.A. directed by Stan Lathan who won the prize for di'rector of Best Documentary last year, and " A Nation of Com- monscnsc" by' the well known St. Claire Bpurne. about Black Muslims. Thursday's films are "It's Art and Culture" from Nigeria, "Dakar First Black Arts Fes- tival" made by the U.S.I.S.. and St. Claire Bourne's "Let the Church Say Amen," U.S.A.
