Students have been reading and answering questions based on chapters 4 and 5 this week. We are discussing character traits, character motivation, characters actions, and important vocabulary from the chapters. *Spelling: This week’s spelling focus was on words with sounds oi and oy. When we return from break, we will focus on homophones. It is important that students study the meaning of each word and how they are used in sentences. *Math: We are continuing our unit on area. We are learning how to find the side lengths of rectangles with given areas. We are also using the distributive and associative property to determine the area of one rectangle combined with another rectangle. It is very important for your child to know their multiplication facts, as this is important for many of the concepts that are taught, like area. *Writing: We are continuing to practice short and extended response writing based on reading passages. Important Information Chuck E. Cheese Fundraiser: Chuck E. Cheese donates 15% of all sales to our school from 3pm to 9pm from February 16 through February 20. Additional information is on the flier sent home with each student. Recess: We do make an attempt to go outside for recess every day, as long as it is not raining or too cold.
