The Global Corporate Challenge by numbers…
Fighting fit employees across the country have been stepping in the right direction in the name of healthy competition.
JTI UK took part in the Global Corporate Challenge for the first time this year – and it’s got everyone walking and talking.
The 16-week global initiative challenges teams of employees to walk, run, cycle and swim to rack up the kilometres and go on a virtual journey around the world.
In total, 336 employees made up 48 JTI teams, and together they have travelled around the world six times.
“There was a fantastic competitive edge and a real buzz around the building,” said Natalie Bombak, Environmental Health and Safety Manager, who headed the program.
“People logged on to the GCC website every day to record their steps to see how far they’ve travelled.
“We will definitely be doing the campaign again and there’s fresh interest around the business already.”
Employees at Crewe have been leading the march.
All four of the top JTI teams and five of the top 10 came from the Cheshire town.
The Integral Whippets ended up top of the table with a total of 9,981 kilometres travelled, taking them as far as the Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines.
Marion Keywood, Integral Administration Supervisor and team captain, said: “It was a great way of maintaining regular exercise and being right near the top inspired us even more.
“We were constantly on the move and having the chance to win really spurred us on.
“We were checking the league table every week and doing that bit extra when we needed to.
“My dog was taken on more walks
Top 10 teams:
than ever before, and lots of the team took up lots of new fitness regimes to make that vital dierence.”
The Crewesaders finished a close second, just 54 kilometres o the pace.
But Security Guard Steve Machin finished the challenge as the most travelled individual in the JTI teams.
“I did a lot of golfing and walked more than three miles each day to and from work, so it soon racked up,” he said.
“I tried my best to embrace the spirit, but it was all about the team eort.
“I’m very active anyway. I work nights and only sleep for four hours so I had plenty of time to get my steps in.”
