Let’s go on a Sustainability Safari Sustainability: Making sure our natural resources are cared for and managed in a way that preserves our world for future generations. Find signs with footprints on your brochure map to discover how the Zoo answers sustainability questions. You can also look in your own community to see what practices are used to discover answers. 1. How can plants reduce energy costs? 2. What recycled material keeps our chimpanzees or the kids in your neighborhood swinging? 3. How can a garbage bin reduce landfill? 4. What type of lights don’t need electricity? 5. How can you cut your food costs? 6. What’s adding a spring to your step at the playground? 7. Why is one man’s trash another man’s treasure? 8. How can you keep big toys out of the landfill? 9. Name some ways to conserve water. 10. How can you reduce rain runoff? 11. Name ways water can be reused. 12. What type of light bulbs can reduce your energy bill? 13. Name some ways to recycle the following items: a. Clothes b. Rubber Boots c. Broken Wheelbarrow d. Discarded Silverware Walking Together... As an AZA accredited zoo we know that wildlife conservation requires conservation of natural resources. We believe conservation is the active stewardship of the natural environment including wildlife, plants, and energy as well as other natural resources. Partnering with the Regional Recycling District and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), we offer opportunities to teach others how they can participate in their community to help conserve the natural environment and improve their quality of life. You too can take action to conserve natural resources with some very simple practices. Use this brochure and go on our Sustainability Safari to learn how. Natural ResourcesIt is important to protect and renew our natural resources in order to meet our current needs to live without risking the ability of future generations to survive.

At the Little Rock Zoo we strive to protect our natural resources in many ways. We recycle many everyday items, compost, and even grow some of the food we feed our animals. We partner with many organizations both locally and globally to help raise funds, protect our resources and educate about conservation. Please join us in our e�orts to preserve and renew our natural resources. For further information, please contact the Little Rock Zoo Education Department at 501-661-7229.

Wind- provides alternative energy sources.

Plants- provide food and soil protection.

Trees- provide oxygen, shelter and shade.
