A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR STEVE I fly just often enough that I sort of remember part of the flight attendants instructions on what to do in an emergency if you are on an airplane. Part of the message goes like this… Oxygen and the air pressure are always being monitored. In the event of a decompression, an oxygen mask will auto-matically appear in front of you. To start the flow of oxygen, pull the mask towards you. Place it firmly over your nose and mouth, secure the elastic band behind your head, and breathe normally. Although the bag does not inflate, oxygen is flowing to the mask. If you are travelling with a child or someone who requires assistance, secure your mask first, and then assist the other person. Being a parent, if flying on a plane and the oxygen masks did drop, It would seem counterintuitive to put the mask on yourself first rather than your children. Upon further reflection it makes sense. Your children are more likely to want the mask on if they have seen you put the mask on yourself. Children are very good at observing their parents behavior and attitudes and then following them. This is especially true when seeking to guide your children in their relationship with God. I am very grateful to have parents who modeled the Christian faith and sincerely sought to seek Jesus and honor God with their lives. They not only sought to instill Christian values and habits in our lives, they lived them. There wasn’t ever a question in our house where we were going on Sunday mornings. I often wasn’t eager to be in worship, but it was a family habit. Later, as a teenager when I really sought answers to ques-tions concerning meaning and values in life, I started to read the Bible and went much deeper in my relationship with God.

Eddie Bayuk, Avis Kissinger, James Reed, Lari Lynn Miller, Matt & Kristi Florek & Family serving in Ethiopia and for all Service Men and Women.

There are so many expectations on parents that I hope you aren’t crushed by them all. At Christ Lutheran we want to encourage, equip and support you in your callings as parents and we hope that parents and all generations will encourage and support each other in their callings. I believe that God will give you the oxygen and fuel through word and sacrament that you need to guide your families in His love. Starting Rally Sunday, September 13th, we are going to two Sunday morning Worship Services, 8:00am and 10:00am with River of Life from 9:00-10:00am. The first service will be unchanged in its worship style. The second service will feature a blend of old and new music with a praise band and be less formal. I hope that you make worshipping together, as you are able, a part of your spiritual discipline. Pastor Steve Rheingans

Starting September 13th (Rally Sunday) we will have two Worship Services

♦ 8:00am Traditional Service ♦ 9:00am River of Life Sunday School ♦ 10:00am Blended Service

A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JACK FRIEDLI Have you ever seriously asked what the will of God is for your life? Would you like to know? Many people do not have the slightest idea what God’s will is for them. Paul says this, “Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, extend hospitality to strangers.”

~Romans 12:9-13 (Read on through chapter l3 of Romans.) Here is a great description of the will of God for our lives. Live this way and I am confident you will know the will of God. What! You want something more. You want more details about how to carry out the above “will” of God. Such details come through a personal relationship to Christ. God is not a dictator, but rather, He has set us free to live our lives. He has given us the Spirit of Christ who lives in us. Through the Spirit, Christ influences us as to how we make decisions, how to love, how to live lives that are pleasing to God. Trust the Spirit to do His Work in you. If you become a slave to the law you will have neither peace nor success only guilt and death. If you trust the Spirit and are willing to live in Him he will lead you into a full and spirit-filled life. Get further acquainted with Jesus. Read the Gospels of the Bible, love Him, and the Spirit will empower you to live a Christ- centered life. Trust Him. Pr. Jack

BELL/TOWER FUND Dear Member's of CLC, I want to inform you of a Memorial Account that the council has set up. The account is to start to collect memorial funds that will go towards the repair of the church bell and painting and maintenance of the bell tower. The estimated minimum amount we will need to complete this project would be $6,000. The cost could be higher if we start work and discover any issues unknown or issues that are bigger than thought. We will move forward with the repair as soon as the funds are raised. Thank You & God Bless, Mark Turany, CLC council President

YOUNG WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY Believe it or not, fall is here and that means the Young Women’s Bible Study will start meeting again. We will be studying Seamless: Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story, by Angie Smith. This study includes 7 lessons on DVD, with a discussion week following each DVD for a total of 14 weeks. Our first bible study will be on Wednesday, September 16th from 10:00-11:00am in the Youth Room. We meet weekly; although, we follow the school calendar. Childcare, with crafts and games, is provided for the children. This a great opportunity for young women to get together to study the bible and build friendships. It is also fun to watch the children grow and get familiar with church as they watch their moms gather weekly for bible study. All are welcome. If you have questions please call me. Leah Hoegh, (507) 398-2691

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” ~2 Corinthians 12:9-10

FAMILY PROMISE ~ Bob Brekke, CLC Coordinator

During the writing of this report we are currently hosting three families (six children and four adults) at CLC. Lots of noise is happening and little feet are running around. Four boxes of kid’s cereal and a lot of milk have been con-sumed already. It has been a good week. We could sure use some more volunteers in all phases of the program. I thought it might be beneficial to tell about what the volun-teers do. The drivers take necessary family members to the day center and schools if necessary and pick them up at 4:45pm at the day center. The drivers leave somewhere between 7:00am and 7:45am depending upon the family and school schedule. The driver may take the van to work with them if that works best. Saturday mornings the families normally leave a little later, usually about 8:45am. The meal hosts come to the church at 5:00pm and stay until 8:00pm and normally provide and serve meals at 6:00pm. Milk/juice and bread are made available for all meals by our own program. The overnight hosts come in at 8:00pm and spend the night normally to about 8:00am or when the families leave. (9:00am on Saturday, 7:00am on Sunday) We always want at least two volunteers available for overnights and meal hosts. In addition volunteers are needed to help set up on the first Sunday and tear down the following Sunday. Other volunteers do the bedding laundry after each host cycle. We hope to make a video to show a snapshot of what happens during the week to show during services periodically. Please address questions about any aspect of the program to Pastor Steve or any of the volunteers listed below. Training Sessions: Monday, September 14th, 6:30pm at CUMC. Monday, October 12th, 6:30pm at Zumbro Lutheran. Sunday, November 8th, 12:00pm at Mount Olive.

MISSIONARY PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FLOREKS Ethiopia Kids Aid! 6/20/2015 We would like to introduce you our friend and co-worker Amelework. She is a nurse, pastor, and counselor who works for our project, but is not in Langano. She is based five hours north of us in Addis Ababa, the capital. She coordinates many patients' appointments every week through our Ethiopia Kids Aid project. Through this project we select patients from our remote clinic with surgical problems, or who need special referral in a large hospital and we send them to Addis. Most of these families have never left their immediate region, and have no idea how to get to Addis or would be able to maneuver the complicated medical system that exists in the capital. Thanks to a wonderful nurse like Amelework, these families are warmly received, housed in a guesthouse, fed meals, and trans-ported to appointments where medical jargon in a different language is translated for them. Thanks to generous donors like you, countless children have received life-saving surgeries such heart valve repair for rheumatic heart disease, cleft-lip repair, hydrocephaly shunt placements, burn contracture releases, and many other treatments. Thank you for partnering with us and Amelework in this work. Together we can accomplish so much!
