WALL SOLUTIONS FOR HEALTHCARE
Healthcare environments encompass a variety of architectural spaces – from veterans and community hospitals to ambulatory care centers, academic medical centers and medical office buildings. When it comes to defining space in these varied environments, KI movable walls provide the ideal solution.
A MEASUREABLE DIFFERENCEWhile the impressive visual qualities of KI movable wall are immediately apparent, it’s often the inherent qualities of the product that bring the greatest value to healthcare environments; qualities that enhance the physical and emotional well-being of patients, families and healthcare staff, and drive positive measurable outcomes. These include: •ImprovedAirQuality– KI movable walls meet strict limits on chemical emissions and are GREENGUARD® Children and Schools certified.
•InfectionControl– KI movable walls are available in a variety of durable finishes which support cleaning with a 1:10 bleach solution.
•PrivacySupport– KI movable walls have best- in-class Sound Transmission Classification (STC) ratings and support privacy/HIPAA requirements.
•EnhancedDaylightingandViews– Light is an important environmental factor. KI movable walls with glass panels promote a sense of well-being and enhance productivity.
FUNCTIONAL, FLEXIBLE AND SUSTAINABLEKI movable walls are highly functional and flexible. They adapt quickly and easily to the ever-changing demands of healthcare environments—and do so in a way that promotes sustainable practices. In fact, KI walls are up to 99% reusable, which translates to fewer raw materials being used.
Challenge: Use movable walls to create glass office fronts while maintain-ing privacy. Acoustical properties are important to the customer, as is a light, clean aesthetic. Project also requires LEED certification.
Solution: KI specifically designed double glazed “mega” panels with KI Genius architectural wall to meet the customer’s challenges. Key compo-nents included the use of glass panels and door frames with an all-encom-passing clerestory panel and recessed base trim. Fritted (special type of frost effect) glass was installed in the panels for an interesting aesthetic while maintaining the privacy desired. The abundant use of glass throughout the space allows natural day lighting to flood the entire area and help achieve LEED certification.

The clear clerestory glass panel above the fritted glass panels and door frames maximize natural day lighting throughout the space. Completing the aesthetic, a recessed base trim creates a clean, effortless look.
An anodized sheet of aluminum cover creates a seamless appearance between the door and adjacent panel.
Door frames and adjacent glass panels work together to enhance the sound transmission class (STC) rating and mini-mize vertical lines.
A unique design using vertical and hori-zontal transitions within the large panel maintains privacy while still capitalizing on natural day lighting.

Challenge: Use movable walls to create a space that complements a building with many curves and arcs of both the exterior and interior architecture.
Solution: KI’s Genius® architectural walls were specifically designed for this project to provide the solutions necessary to meet the customer’s unique needs. Using a special measuring program with lasers and predetermined target points, the KI team created a layout with exact dimensions and specifications for the architectural space. The end result was a beautifully unique custom structure that fit within the various curves and arcs of the building.
