Walnut Springs Middle School Newsletter
Message from the Principal
Happy Holidays from the Walnut Staff.
The 2nd quarter ends on December 19th. Teachers will be updating their grades in Powerschool. All grades will be finalized in January.
With our temperatures dropping outside I would like to remind you to have your student dress appropriately.
I have reminded the students that attending after school activities is a privilege. Students must have transportation arranged for pick up following activities.
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Mr. Ackerman
Acting Principal

Adult Volunteers needed to help judge National History Day projects
Walnut Springs National History Day event will take place on Friday, January 23rd at 5:30pm at Walnut Springs Middle School. The students' projects will be judged at this time and we are looking for some volunteers to help with this. Volunteers will follow a rubric and do not need to be history specialists. Please contact Amy Van Sickle at [email protected] if you would like to help.

Mash a Key with Mr. C! by Lynn Maslowski
Mash a Key with Mr. C! was the name of an exciting event that took place at Walnut Springs
Middle School on Monday morning, December 8. Assistant Principal Ernest Clinkscale
challenged the top 25 typists in Jane Elliott's Literacy Skills for Career Education classes to a
type-off. Mr. Clinkscale and his student challengers gathered in the Media Center to partake in
the contest, which measured both speed and accuracy. They were surrounded by dozens of
raucous pupils who made signs and cheered them on as if they were attending a sporting event.
When the dust settled, Mr. Clinkscale experienced the agony of defeat. His 40 words per minute
didn't hold a candle to the 69 words per minute achieved by sixth grader Rodney Jarrett.
Pictured: Assistant Principal Ernest Clinkscale competed against 25 top typists at Walnut
Springs Middle School. His 40 words per minute did not hold up to the winning speed of 69
words per minute, typed by sixth grade student Rodney Jarrett.

Pictured is a bulletin board in the 6th grade hallway. Students can estimate the number of cotton balls needed to fill the large Olaf. Estimates need to be explained in detail then put inside the envelope outside Mrs. Soisson’s classroom door, room 502. Winners will be chosen on January 6th.
