WALT choose the purpose and format of our writing.
At school and at home we have learnt how to write for lots of different purposes and formats.
Glossary
Format: How a piece of writing is laid out. Does it have headings, a title, pictures, paragraphs, fact boxes, bullet points? All of these depend on the purpose of your writing. For example a story doesn't need subheadings but a fact file does or instructions need bullet points but a comic strip doesn't).
Purpose: The reason for your writing. Is it giving someone facts (informing), convincing or persuading someone, entertaining someone or explaining something. All of the different types of writing we do at school fits into one of these purposes.
WALT choose the purpose and format of our writing.
Our topic is the Aztecs so we would like you to write about something you have learnt so far about the Aztecs. You might want to research something that interests you about the Aztecs.
When you have chosen your purpose and format you might need to look back at some of the teaching slides to help you. For example if you choose to write a cinquain poem about the Aztecs, have a look at the cinquain slides to remind you what you need to include for it to be a successful cinquain. If you can't find the slides please ask your teacher to send them to you.
On the next page you will find ideas of all the different purposes and formats for writing. We have learnt how to write all of these at some point in P3. Take your time to choose which one you will do. It might be best to choose something you know you will enjoy writing.
This week we would like you to choose your own purpose and format.
