DESCRIPTION

CRUELLA DEVILLE The famous artwork that I chose to modernize was this sketch of Cruella Deville. I chose this one because I wanted to do a character that wasn’t as popular as Mickey Mouse but relatively known. I don’t think the picture is realistic like a real person, but that’s okay. I don’t believe that animation has to look real. You have the freedom to create your own person. I think that Walt used good shading technique, he chose black and white to keep it simple. Although, this picture was simple it was also detailed at the same time.

INSPIRATION BEHIND MY MODERNIZATION

CRITIQUE ON MY ARTWORKWhen I first chose Cruella Deville to modernize I immediately thought of Melanie Martinez. I thought of her because she’s an alternative music artist and she has her hair dyed like Cruella. So I decided I would still keep Cruella , but I would just give her a makeover done by Melanie Martinez. Instead of doing the whole thing in black and white I added color because Melanie Martinez is very color oriented.

STORY BEHIND MY ART The story behind is that even though you’re slightly different from the other people who have similar likings, you can still do just that. For Example, Melanie Martinez is a singer, but you wouldn’t compare her to Rihanna, Ariana Grande, or Demi Lovato. You simply couldn’t compare her to them because she doesn’t sing the same style of music as them, dress like them , or have similar lyrics. She’s alternative. Even though she isn’t like the other artist previously mentioned, she is still an artist herself and that’s completely ok. This connects to my art because Cruella Deville is known as a villain , but villains are known for looking scary all the time. To modernize my project I added color and different items that are baby-like. Even though Cruelle Deville now looks slightly different from other villains, she still is solely known as a villain.
