Next Meeting:

Our next meeting will be held at Harbel at 7:45 PM on Wednesday, November 6th

. Our annual elections for the

Waltherson Improvement Association board will be held; Delegate Cheryl Glenn is on the agenda. There will also

be a by-law change on the ballot to remove date specific meeting information from our bylaws. This will allow usto change the date of the meeting and frequency.

President’s Letter

Hello & happy fall, everyone.

A special thanks to all those that came out to help us celebrate our 70th year anniversary as an association for our

block party. Whew... the hard work paid off & the weather held out. We met some new people & reacquainted

with others. We thank our dignitaries who came out, as well. Our gratitude goes out to many of the neighboring

businesses that donated food, the awesome chefs who cooked it, & Faith Community Church for allowing us to

have it in their parking lot. We will do this again in the spring. I hope you enjoyed it. We hope to see you at the

meetings & hear from you on our website.

We have quite a team here at WIA; most of our board members will continue to run for elections in November, &

we welcome a new one, as well. All of our positions will be filled, but please we welcome nominations, if you are

interested. During our November General Meeting, the first Wed of the month (Nov 6th

), we will hold our

elections. We will also be voting on amendments to our by-laws in November, which will present the idea of

changing to a quarterly General Meeting & moving our meeting days to Tuesday. We also have a few ideas for

topics that night, so please visit Nextdoor Waltherson and let us know what you would like to hear at the

meetings.

We are busy with many activities & events to help keep our neighborhood the awesome place it is to live.Sometimes we can sit at our desks & communicate on emails, but other times, we have to get up, dress up, & show

up. Even going door-to-door is still one of the greatest way to reach the public.

Some of the latest topics are:

The Baltimore City of Transportation held a meeting about the Belair Rd corridor on Oct 21st

.

Our neighbors at the Zion School, who have recently submitted updated drawings for the gym &

classrooms. This is still in the planning stages but coming along nicely.

We have a group interested in helping to clean up the Biddison Cemetary, so if you are interested, let us

know. We will share the date shortly.

We are working on traffic calming, the following requests will be voted on in December meeting.

4800-5100 Holder Ave (Southern to Echodale)o  5300 Holder Ave (Echodale to Frankford)

o  3400-3500 Hamilton Ave (Frankford to Walther)

We continue to monitor vacants, overgrown lawns, & work on preventing crime in our area.

As always, we look for ideas to stimulate your interest, so please be sure to share them with us. See you at the

November meeting!

Helene

Belair Road Market Analysis Release

When: Monday, November 18, 7:30 p.m.

Where: HARBEL, 5807 Harford Road

RSVP Required

Market analysis prepared by Willdan Financial and Economic Consulting Services, Design Collective,

WT+a, and wba Research. Please RSVP by November 14 to Kristen Mitchell, Senior Economic

Development Officer, Baltimore Development Corporation, by e-mail at

[email protected] or by phone at 410-779-3837.

The March 2011 report Revitalizing the Belair Road Corridor, prepared by the Urban Land Institute-

Baltimore District Chapter, created a strategic geographic framework for revitalization of a five-mile

stretch of Belair Road from Sinclair Lane in Baltimore City to the Baltimore Beltway in Baltimore County.

The report emphasized the necessity of having a comprehensive market analysis in order to implement

this revitalization strategy. The purpose of the market analysis is to provide government decision-

makers, developers, business owners, property owners, investors, and community leaders with an

understanding of the different types of land uses the market can support, and how much can be

supported.

The following organizations and entities worked together to ensure that this key recommendation cameto fruition: City of Baltimore, Baltimore City Department of Planning, Baltimore County, Baltimore

County Department of Planning, Baltimore Development Corporation, Greater Baltimore Committee,

HARBEL, Gardenville Belair Road Business Association, Belair-Edison Neighborhoods, Inc., North Belair

Road Community Coalition

With this market analysis complete, we can all turn our attention collectively to marketing and branding

with the goal of reinvigorating Belair Road as outlined in the March 2011 report.

St. Nicholas Playing at Performance Workshop Theatre

Directed by Marlyn G. Robinson – October 25 – November 24

Performance Workshop Theatre presents the return of the extraordinary one-man play, St

Nicholas, by the celebrated Irish playwright, Conor McPherson. A modern day gothic tale, St.

Nicholas is the chillingly funny and macabre story of an Irish theatre critic at a crisis in his life,

who chases a beautiful young actress to London, then falls into a world of lust, dark secrets,

vampires, and mystery. Award-winning actor, Marc Horwitz, stars in a reprise of his acclaimed

solo performance in our 2005 production of this brilliant one actor tour-de-force.
