Support our Farmers

Wamberal Public School is collecting donations of non-perishable groceries, animal feed & gift cards to be donated to our farmers. Please drop off donations to the front office until Friday 21st September. On Friday 28th September, the school is hosting a fundraiser and children are asked to bring a gold coin donation. Please note this is not a dress up day, however if students have some clothing already at home which fit the theme, they may wear it (e.g. jeans or an Akubra hat). Please do not purchase clothing for this day, we would rather money be donated instead!

The canteen will also host a fundraising BBQ on this day. Students may buy lunch – $4.50 for a sausage in a roll with sauce. $1 from all lunch sales will be donated to Rural Aid (Buy a Bale). Please place orders via Flexischools.

Indigenous Literacy Day - ‘The Great Book Swap’

Our school is holding a book swap to support this cause and raise much needed funds to supply over 40,000 books to over 230 remote indigenous communities and organisations across Australia.

Students are asked to please bring in ONE loved book to swap. On the day of ‘The Great Book Swap’ a gold coin donation is required to be able to take home another book to enjoy.

Book swap day: Tuesday 25th September 2018, 9.45 – 11.35 am

Cost: a gold coin donation

Supporting Students through the Learning and Support Team

The Role of the Learning and Support Team

Students at Wamberal Public School achieve maximum outcomes when they are able to work in a caring, secure and supportive environment. The whole school community works together to provide quality educational programs and to meet the personal, social and learning needs of all students. Our Learning and Support Team meets regularly to discuss specific strategies to assist students requiring additional support in areas of learning and behaviour. The Learning and Support Team coordinates the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of learning support plans.

Process of Referral to the Learning and Support Team

Students requiring additional support at school may be identified by teachers and/or parents. Through teacher and parent consultation, these students may be referred to the school’s Learning and Support Team. This team then discusses the most appropriate form of support and intervention for the student and communicates this outcome to parents/carers.

In some cases, a referral to the Learning and Support Team may subsequently result in a referral to the school counsellor. In these cases, written permission will be sought from parents and carers. All referrals to the school counsellor are prioritised by the Learning and Support Team according to level of need at school. Following intervention by the school counsellor, parents will be invited to discuss the outcome of this intervention with the counsellor and be provided, in many cases, with a written report.

Should there be a counsellor recommendation for further support through a non-Department of Education service provider (e.g. paediatrician) this report may then be used to inform additional assessments. The school counsellor, with parent/carer permission, will liaise with outside service providers, as required.

Please visit the Learning Support section of our school website for more details.

As the school counsellor is a Department of Education employee, they work in response to referrals from the Learning and Support Team, and are not in a position to respond to direct requests for assessment from outside service providers. Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss any issues affecting their child with the classroom teacher in order to determine whether a referral to the Learning and Support Team may be appropriate. The Learning and Support Team will then discuss what support is appropriate.

Have a great week. Lisa Lewis and Kylie Johnson Deputy Principals

TELL THEM FROM ME

The Tell Them From Me survey (Term 3, 2018) This term, we are participating in the TTFM (Tell Them From Me) Survey: Partners in Learning

Parent Survey on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about

different factors known to impact student wellbeing and engagement. Areas covered include:

communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer

views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. Similar surveys are conducted with staff

and student groups. This valuable feedback gathered assists our school with future planning.

The online survey is completely confidential, can be accessed by smartphones, iPads, tablets,

laptops or computers and takes about 15 minutes or less to complete. The survey will remain open

until 26 October, 2018. Although participation is voluntary, your responses are encouraged and

greatly appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.
