Greetings to you as we remember, celebrate and embrace the Risen Christ. Easter is a high moment when we remember with gratitude that we are given new life, because of God’s unconditional love and grace. A free giſt from God that we so oſten take for granted, and oſten keep to ourselves instead of sharing with others. Let it not be so this time. Be sure to pray and ask God to bring someone into your life that you can share the Good News of the Risen Christ. I hope that you are using the “Pray at 4:30” card daily. I have an alarm on my phone to remind me to stop what I am doing, wherever I am, to pray. Not just to recite what’s on the card as we may have got accustomed to in praying the Lord’s Prayer, but to be thoughtful about the words. Also, to invite the Holy Spirit to nudge us to become the answer to our prayer. What power does Satan have a grip on your life that needs to be broken? Negativity? Gossip? Putting others down? Speaking behind people’s backs? Let us be honest with ourselves and become a broken vessel that confesses our individual sins that God can heal and forgive. What power does Satan have on our community? Financial anxiety? Judging one another instead of loving each other? Hatred? Loss of self-worth that can lead to addictions? A breakdown in communication? What are the needs around us that we should be meeting? As you pray and as you listen, call the church office with what you hear, or put it on the bulletin board in the hallway. Let us see and hear what God is saying to us as the Body of Christ. Prayer is powerful. Prayer is our life breath. Prayer is not optional, it is essential. Prayer can and will transform us to who God wants us to be, today and into the future. God’s desire is that we are faithful to abide in Christ and invite others to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. But to do that we need to know that He is OUR savior. If he is our Savior, we need to be saved from our sins. at means that we need to recognize our sinful nature, confess our sins, and seek forgiveness. Will you confess your sins? What are the needs around us that we should be meeting? As you pray and as you listen, call the church office with what you hear, or put it on the bulletin board in the hallway. Let us see and hear what God is saying to us as the Body of Christ.

WAS THE CHURCH SERVICE WORTH A DOLLAR?I like the old story about the guy who came to church with his family. As they were driving home afterwards he was complaining about everything. He said, “The music was too loud. The sermon was too long. The announcements were unclear. The building was hot. The people were unfriendly.” He went on and on, complaining about virtually everything. Finally, his very observant son said, “Dad, you’ve got to admit it wasn’t a bad show for just a dollar.”

HEALTH MINISTRIESWHAT IS LACTOSE INTOLERANCE?Millions of Americans can’t digest a certain sugar in milk and milk products called lactose. Lactose intolerance can lead to extreme discomfort, but it’s not life threatening. People with a dairy allergy react to proteins in the milk, not sugars. When we drink milk or have a milk-based product lactase in our intestines breaks down the milk sugar. It then gets absorbed into the body through the intestines. But people who are lactose intolerant don’t have it so easy. In them, the lactose doesn’t break down. Instead, it goes onto the colon, where it mixes with normal bacteria and ferments. It can cause gas, bloating and diarrhea. There are some steps you can take to test yourself: 1. Go without milk or milk products

for a couple of weeks. 2. If the symptoms disappear, bring

dairy products back into your diet a little at a time to take note how you react.

3. If your symptoms continue after cutting out the dairy, or if they return, see your doctor to find out what’s going on.

Believe it or not, most adults around the world can’t digest milk and 40% of humans stop producing enough lactose to digest milk between the ages of 2-5. In the U.S., it’s estimated that about 30 million people are lactose intolerant. It is most common among: Asian-Americans, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native-Americans. It can also be inherited or associated with other specific diseases.

There are two tests that can determine if you are lactose intolerant: 1. Breath Test: This will show if

you have high levels of hydrogen when you exhale. If you do, you might be intolerant. That’s because hydrogen is given off when lactose is broken down in the colon. The hydrogen gets taken by the blood up to your lungs, and then you exhale it.

2. Blood Test: This can show how your body reacts after you drink something with a lot of lactose. A stool sample can be obtained from babies and young children.

You may still be able to eat or drink small amounts of milk. Some people do better if they have their dairy with a meal. And some dairy products, like hard cheese or yogurt, may be easier to digest. Also, there are lots of lactose-free dairy products at the store. Or you can buy over-the-counter supplements, like Lactaid to break down the milk sugars if you want the real thing. But if you give up milk completely, you can still get plenty of calcium, vitamin D and other nutrients in a healthy diet. Instead of milk, you can substitute with these foods: almonds, dried beans, tofu, collards, kale, calcium-fortified orange juice and soy milk, fatty fish, egg yolks, and beef liver.– Your Parish Nurse, Lynn Creager, RN

DONATED SUPPLIESThere are supplies that were donated to the nurses’ office. If anyone could use ace bandages, Depends and a few other supplies see Lynn Creager, Parish Nurse.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPApril 18 / 1:00 PM / In the Choir Room. Open to all who are struggling with loss in their lives. It may be a loved one, the loss of a home, or job, or pet. Pastor John Paschen facilitates this group.

TO LIGHTEN YOUR SPIRITSThere was once a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money, and he wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So, he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.An angel hears his plea and appears to him, “Sorry, but you can’t take your wealth with you.” The man implores the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules. The man continued to pray that his wealth could follow him. The angel reappears and informs the man that God has decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathers his largest suitcase and fills it with pure gold bars and places it beside his bed.Soon afterward, the man dies and shows up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St. Peter. Seeing the suitcase, Peter says, “Hold on, you can’t bring that in here!”But the man explains to him that he has permission and asks him to verify his story with the Lord. Sure enough, St. Peter checks and comes back saying, “You’re right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I’m supposed to check its contents before letting it through.”Peter opens the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too precious to leave behind and exclaims, “You brought pavement?!!!” – Author Unknown

2 CHRONICLES 31:4–64 In addition, he required the people in Jerusalem to bring their tithes to the priests and Levites so that they wouldn’t need other employment but could apply themselves fully to their duties as required in the law of God. 5-6 The people responded immediately and generously with the first of their crops and grain, new wine, olive oil, honey, and everything else—a tithe of all they owned, as required by law to be given to the Lord their God. Everything was laid out in great piles. The people who had moved to Judah from the northern tribes and the people of Judah living in the provinces also brought in the tithes of their cattle and sheep, and brought a tithe of the dedicated things to give to the Lord, and piled them up in great heaps.

Is God calling you to be immediate and generous?
