REPLACEMENT OF RECOIL SPRINGS/SHOK-BUFF® ON

CAPTIVE GUIDE RODS

Put on safety glasses. Place the flange end of the guide rod on a flat, strong surface (such as the top of a work bench) with the guide rodpointed straight up. Turn the rod so that the head of the take-down pinis facing your left. Hold the guide rod flange firmly down against thetable with the thumb and forefinger of your left hand. Grasp theflange area of the plug with your right thumb and fore-finger, carefullypush the plug down and compress the recoil spring slightly. Hold theplug steady with your right hand and carefully remove the take-downpin with your left hand. Immediately grasp the base of the guide rodagain and slowly let the plug ease upward to let the recoil spring decompress. Hold both the base of the guide rod and the recoil springplug firmly and keep your face clear of the plug. Re-assemble inreverseorder after replacement of recoil springand SHOK-BUFF®.

PROPER LUBRICATION

After cleaning, we recommend that your pistol be lubricated withULTIMA-LUBE® Universal.

Lube Points:

Slide - 2-3 drops inside top just in front of locking lug cuts.

Barrel - 1 drop on each side of slide stop lug and at each slidestop bearing surface. 2 drops at the muzzleand wherethe barrel contacts the ID of barrel bushing.

Frame - 1-2 drops both front and rear on the frame rails as wellas in the slide rail cut on each side.

Guide Rod- 2-3 drops on the exteriorsurface where contact with theplug is made.

A basic rule of thumb is to apply a thin coat of lube anywhere you seesign of metal to metal contact and don't apply lube anywhere else.Excess lube will only get you dirty and collect firing residue. A pistol

properly lubricated as shown below (FIG. PL1) should not need further lubrication for 300-500 rds. (Refer to accompanying video formore detailed lubricating procedures.) NOTE: Video tape was madebefore the development of ULTIMA-LUBEK Universal.
