The City of West Torrens, in conjunction with Solo Resource Recovery, is conducting its yearly hard waste collection from households.Collection dates for your suburb are listed inside.Your hard waste must be ready for collection by 6am on the Monday of your collection week.To ensure that your hard waste is collected, it must be:• Stacked neatly on the verge in front of your
property.• Placed out no earlier than the weekend before your
collection week. Fines for illegal dumping may be issued for waste placed out earlier.
• No more than 1.5 cubic metres (equivalent to a 6 x 4 foot trailer).
Please read the information contained in this brochure carefully regarding the items that are accepted and the items that will not be accepted for collection.Any enquiries can be directed to Solo Resource Recovery on 8295 5077.
Compliance officers from the City of West Torrens will be policing the hard waste collection.
Please read this brochure carefully to ensure that you comply with the guidelines and instructions.
Failure to comply with the guidelines and instructions may result in a $315 fine for illegal dumping being issued under Section 235 of the Local Government Act.
REMEMBER To avoid an illegal dumping fine:
• Place items on the verge no sooner than the weekend prior to your collection date.
• Do not place items on the verge after the collection truck has passed your premises - these items will not be collected.
WARNINGWhat to do with materials that won’t be collected
NOTE: Collection sites may charge a fee to deposit material or have conditions regarding disposal.
The following materials can be disposed of at Adelaide Waste and Recycling Centre, 181 Morphett Road, North Plympton.
• Bricks, pavers, concrete, building materials, pallets
• Dirt, soil and rocks• Broken glass• Ceramics eg. basins, toilets, tiles• Paints (water-based only)• Tyres• Organic material• Fire extinguishers (red only, free
disposal)• Car and motor bike batteries• LPG gas cylinders• Oil (free disposal for up to 40 litres)• Cardboard
AsbestosThis must be handled with caution and can only be disposed of at facilities with the appropriate licence. Contact
the SA Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for information about the safe handling and disposal of asbestos, phone 8204 2004.
Ammunition, explosives and flares For information on discarding ammunition explosives and flares, contact your local police station.

Batteries Vehicle and all other batteries can be recycled at Battery World, 86 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton. Vehicle
batteries can be recycled at Adelaide Waste and Recycling Centre or at battery recycling centres; visit recyclemybattery.com.au or call 1300 650 702.
Fire extinguishers, smoke alarms Yellow fire extinguishers should be taken to any Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) station. Red fire extinguishers can be
taken to Adelaide Waste and Recycling Centre, 181 Morphett Road, North Plympton. Smoke alarms can be placed in your waste bin but remove the battery first.
Fluorescent globes Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), fluorescent tubes, halogen lamps, tubes or bulbs and incandescent globes can
be recycled safely at any Mitre 10, Banner or True Value hardware stores.
Mobile phones Phones and phone batteries can be taken to most mobile phone shops, Mobile Muster locations
(www.mobilemuster.com.au) or the City of West Torrens Civic Centre,165 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton.
Paints and hazardous chemicals For information on disposal options visit zerowaste.sa.gov.au/at-home/hazardous-waste.

Green organics - eg. grass clippings, weeds, branches

Separate trucks will collect the following for recycling purposes
Electronic and electrical waste - including TVs and computers
Mattresses - limit 2 mattresses
Sheets of iron and guttering - up to 1.5m lengths

Neatly stack your waste as close to the kerb as possible. A limit of 1.5 cubic metres of waste per household applies.Items must be able to be lifted by two people.

Older people and people with a disability who are unable to arrange for family/friends to place items out for collection, can call the Service Centre on 8416 6333. Book early to avoid disappointment.
