1 Warranwood Primary School www.warranwood.vic.edu.au Term 3, Week 4 Thursday 6th August, 2015 Principal’s Report ENROLMENTS 2016 We have had lots of enrolments coming in for Prep 2016. The last forms we get in are usually the ones from current par- ents for younger siblings! So, please get those forms in so we can confirm enrolments for 2016! NAPLAN The media was full of news about results of the NAPLAN tests conducted in May. While the statewide data has been re- leased, schools do not yet have access to our student data. We will get it at much the same time as the parent reports are delivered to the school, which we have been told is in the week beginning 17 August. While the tests give an indication of critical literacy and numeracy capability, they cannot measure some of the things we hold to be important in our community –communication, collaborative learning, leadership and the skills that will enable our students to survive and thrive in a con- stantly changing future. WHAT DAY IS IT? We have had a mixed up week, with our Athletics Day now in its third position on the calendar! The bitter cold and wind that would have marred yesterday’s event would also have made the alternate day of next Monday unpleasant. Hopefully the mix-up on the part of the management of Proclamation Park will mean we have a better day tomorrow. Although by the look of it, lots of warm clothes and a coat and a hat would still be strongly advised. In case you are wondering, we need to organise athletics at this time of year to fit in with the schedule of district, region and state athletics events that follow. So, the free dress day for Paddy’s Market Wacky Wednesday will now be on Monday! TELSTRA GRANTS Do you, a family member, a friend or neighbour work at Telstra? Thanks to Kirsty Bishop we have had a couple of success- es this year in applying for grants for our Wetlands (Frog Bog) regeneration project and for our Edible Food Forest. That is a fancy name for the area between art room and courtyard where we have started by installing water tanks. Telstra employ- ees are eligible for small grants for their community. We will do the work!! Please contact the office! FATHER CHILD NIGHT This year’s Fathers Day event will mean all students will have the chance to celebrate with our school function. Our PA have organised a special closed (only Warranwood) event at JUMPDECK. This will be on Friday 21 August, so fathers, grandfathers, uncles, special friends can be invited by our students to join in the fun! A flyer was sent home, however is still available from the office. I would like to take the opportunity to recognise the contribution of the Ozzimo family who have for a number of years run the Father-Daughter Dance, even after their daughters went to secondary school! WACKY WEDNESDAY MARKET DAY

WACKY WEDNESDAY MARKET DAY is fast approaching.

Excitement is building as next Wednesday, August 12th the school will

be abuzz with students wandering around the different market stalls choosing

which goodies and activities they are going to spend their money on.

We still require a lot more donations to help make the day a raging success. If stu-

dents have not yet donated we would greatly appreciate goodies being sent along to

classroom teachers ASAP.

*Prep students will be selling lollies.

*Year one and two students will be selling lucky jars.

*Year three and four students will sell games, toys and books.

*Year five and six students will provide a range of activities and sell a variety of

food for students to purchase.

Please send along a gold coin donation for NEXT WEEK’S

Free Dress Day

MONDAY 10th AUGUST Money will go towards Market Day prizes.

Keep your fingers crossed for a fine, sunny day.
