II Samuel 23: 13-17

(part of a series on the life of David from 1st and 2nd Samuel)

II Samuel 23:16 Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried and brought it to David.

But he would not drink of it.

He poured it out …

What a waste!

That’s crazy!

lack of appreciation!

Why do something so foolish?

There must be something significant going on that I do not understand!!!

1Samuel 22:1 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.

2 And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. There were with him about four hundred men.

Philippians 2:17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering, I am glad and rejoice!

2 Timothy 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, ….

Leviticus 23:37 "These are the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim as times of holy convocation, for presenting to the LORD food offerings, burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each on its proper day,

Numbers 28:7 Its drink offering shall be a quarter of a hin for each lamb. In the Holy Place you shall pour out a drink offering of strong drink to the LORD.

Num 28:9 "On the Sabbath day, two male lambs a year old without blemish, and two tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, and its drink offering:

10 this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
