PERSONAL & SEASON BEST: 47.93

Anderson, who ended his collegiate career at Washington State as a four-time Pac-10 and three time NCAA champion in

the intermediate hurdles, won his first USA championship in Eugene with a thrilling dive across the tape to hold off defending champion Bershawn Jackson and two-time Olympic champ Angelo Taylor.

Raced sparingly after the USAs, but finished sixth in the Herculis meeting in Monaco in 49.43. Recently won the 400

hurdles title at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, running 49.03.

Jungmark (pronounced eh-bah yoon-mark), who won an NCAA title for Washington State University in 2008, competesin her second career world championships, having competed in Osaka in 2007, where she jumped 6-2 (1.88m) in the

qualifying round.

She finished third in the European Indoor championships in Paris this season, setting her personal best of 6-5. and wassecond in the Swedish outdoor championships in Gävle, where she set her outdoor PR of 6-4. In three Samsung Diamond

League meet appearances this season, her best placing was fifth at the Aviva British GP in Birmingham, where shecleared 6-0.

Washington ties: Attended University of Washington

PERSONAL & SEASON BEST: 219-9 (66.98m) in Chula Vista, California

Märt, who competed for the Huskies in two meets in 2007 before being declared ineligible due to credits transferring

from Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia, was selected by his country’s federation for his third world

championship team.

He enters the World Championships with a personal best of 219-9, set in May at the Chula Vista throwers meet in

California. Comes to Daegu as the World University Games champion in the event, throwing 210-2 (64.07m) on

8/21/11. Currently trains in Estonia with a group of throwers that include former world discus champion Gerd Kanter.

PERSONAL & SEASON BEST: 5,000m - 12:53.60 (AR)

Lagat, the 2007 world champion at both 1500 and 5000 meters, won the national title at 5000 meters, and finished

second at 1500. Opted to vacate his spot on the 1500 team, and will only run the 5000 at the world championships.

In Samsung Diamond League action this season, he finished second behind Mo Farah of Great Britain at the Herculis

meeting in Monaco, where he broke his own American record in the 5000, running 12:53.60. He also finished second

in London in the mile, won the two-mile at Prefontaine in Eugene, got second in the 5000 at the adidas GP in New

York, and third in the 1500 at the Meeting Areva in St. Denis.

Washington ties: Based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord

PERSONAL BEST: 250-3 (76.27m), Provo UT, 2008

SEASON BEST: 245-0 (74.69m), Eugene

With his second-place finish at the 2011 USA Outdoor Championships, Mai qualified for his second World Outdoor Championships, having competed in the 2009 meet in Berlin, where he threw 238-1 (72.58m), placing 11 th in his group.

Mai, a major in the US Army, recently completed a two-year assignment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord outside Tacoma,where he was the commander of the 9th Financial Management Company, where he regularly logged 12-hour days

 between his military duties, and his training. Recently rejoined the Army World Class Athlete Program in order to focusfull time on training.

Måkestad comes into the world championships as the Norwegian national champion and recordholder at 800m. Won the 1500 for Norway at the European Team Championships-First League in

Izmir, Turkey, helping Norway earn promotion into the Super League for the 2012 season.

In Samsung Diamond League action this season, the former Husky was 10 th in Oslo in the 800; 12th in the 1500 inLausanne; 6th in the 1500 in Birmingham; 14th in the 1500 in Monaco; 15th in the 800 in Stockholm; and 8th in the 800 inLondon.

Patterson won her fourth straight USA championship in the javelin in Eugene, Oregon in late June, throwing 194-8

(59.34m). Admits that this season has been a struggle, after a breakthrough season in 2010, where she set an American

record of 218-8 (66.67m) at last year’s USA nationals in Des Moines, Iowa, and was in contention for the Samsung

Diamond Trophy for most of the season, highlighted by a win at the Prefontaine Classic.

In six Samsung Diamond League meets this season, she’s placed 4th in Rome; 6th in both Eugene and New York; 8th in

Paris & Monaco; and 5th in London. She’s been working on several technical issues in her event that have contributed

to her struggles this season.

PERSONAL AND SEASON BEST: 225-7 (68.76m) in Chula Vista, California

Rome earned his fourth consecutive world championship team berth with his victory at the USA championships in

June, throwing 209-11 (63.99m). He then followed it up on August 6th at a low key meet at the US Olympic Training

Center in Chula Vista, throwing an unlooked-for 225-7 (68.76m), currently the third longest throw in the world in

2011.

In his three previous world championship appearances, Jarred finished seventh in Helsinki, throwing 210-8, and was

eighth in his flight (not making the finals) in Osaka. He finished 11th at the 2009 championships in Berlin, throwing

204-11. Has only competed in one Samsung Diamond League meet this season, a ninth place finish in the seasonopener in Doha.

Sayenko’s personal best time of 2:14:27 at last October’s Bank of America Chicago Marathon earned the Sammamish

High School graduate a spot on Team USA at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships. He joins Nick Arciniaga, Sergio Reyes, Jeffery Eggleston, and Mike Morgan on the five man squad that contests the IAAFWorld Marathon Cup, which is run concurrent with the world championships.

For Sayenko, the opportunity to compete at the world championships is a dream come true. On his web site,

runsayenko.blogspot.com, he said, “It will be a great experience to race at the international level and see many of thesame guys that will be competing at the Olympics next year.” During Sayenko’s senior year at the University of Washington, he made his marathon debut at the 2006 California International Marathon where he ran 2:19:45 qualifying

him as the youngest runner at the 2008 Olympic Trials (where he finished 29th).

Washington ties: Attended University of Washington & Renton High School

PERSONAL BEST: 216-1 (65.86m) in Marietta, Georgia, 2004

SEASON BEST: 209-5 (63.85m) in Lausanne, Switzerland

Thurmond, who is perhaps one of the most consistent throwers over the past decade earned yet another spot on the

world championship team in finishing second at the USA championships to earn her fifth appearance at the world

championships. Two years ago, Thurmond made her first world championship finals, placing tenth. She won the

2008 Olympic Trials, and finished sixth in the 2007 USA championships less than three weeks after giving birth to son

Theo. In her storied career, the University of Washington alum won five national championships and made three

Olympic teams.

In her third Olympic appearance, Thurmond made her first major international final in finishing tenth in Beijing with a

mark of 196-2. Is a member of USA Track & Field’s board of directors.
