February Interesting Facts February was added in 713 BC and the length has changed over time, having as few as 23 days before Jul-
ius Caesar remade the Roman calendar and established the length of 28 days with 29 every four years.
Welsh call February “y mis bach” which means “little month”
The month is named for the Latin word “februum” which means “purification”
The Saxton term is “Sol-monath” which means “cake month” because they offered cakes to the gods dur-ing the month
In the southern hemisphere, the weather is comparable to August
It was one of the last months added to the Roman calendar.

New Tutor- Odalis Martinez
Recently, Independence Community College acquired a new tutor, Odalis Martinez, to help and assist students with their academic studies. She is an international student from Venezuela, who dreamed of bigger things, and a world full of opportunity. She was offered a volleyball scholarship, and saw numerous opportunities that could benefit her major (Business), and decided to enroll in ICC. Considered a genius in high-school, she has been able to accomplish much more at college, such as obtaining an officer position in Phi Theta Kappa and becoming a tutor for the SSS Lab/Tutoring Center. Odalis has dreamed of helping people after a good friend who worked in the tutoring center, inspired her to chase and achieve her goals. She is very excited to help in any way she can, and would like to inspire all who are going through rough times, that there is hope and that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
SSS students participating in a Financial Aid work-
shop by Mrs. Laura Allison, Director of Financial
