Principal’s Update
Our principal, Bill Pendrey, returned to
school this week after recovering from com-
plications from knee surgery. He was hospi-
talized for over a week during the Christmas
holidays and then spent many days recuper-
ating at home.
Many concerned students, parents, staff
and others from our community contacted
Mr. and Mrs. Pendrey during this time. “I
want to express my sincere gratitude to
everyone for your prayers and kind well-
wishes,” he said.
Mr. Pendrey is feeling much better and
continues to get around with the aid of a
power wheelchair while his knee is healing.

The Tiger boy’s basket-ball team did great, ending
their season, 6-3. The captains were Terez Norman
and Chris Jackson (pictured, above). We would like to
thank Terez for providing information to the Tiger
News Staff after every game. He says his favorite
game was when the team played Louisville. The tigers
fought a ferocious battle, finally clawing out a victory
after a triple overtime. Tigers, way to end the season
with a roar!
Girls Basketball
The Lady Tigers came out with a winning season, 6-3. We would like to thank Jada Brittain (pictured, above) for giving us information about the games for the newspaper. Jada says that her favorite game of the season was against Glascock where they had a big victory with an ending score of 51-23. It was a great game. Go Lady Tigers!

FBLA Future Business Leaders of America
Twelve students attended the Fall Leadership Confer-
ence in Athens on November 12 (photo, at left). The stu-
dents participated in a workshop where they learned
about leadership. The ribbons on their nametags depicted
achievements for our chapter, including attaining the
“silver level” of the state Chapter of the Year award. At
the event, our chapter donated a holiday gift basket for
FBLA’s scholarship auction fundraiser. Also in November,
we joined the high school FBLA chapter in a coat drive
for the needy of Wilkes County. We will join the nation
in celebrating FBLA week, February 7-13. Details soon!
Jr. Beta Club held their annual canned
food drive, December 2-10, with a com-
petition among the home rooms. Al
Dawkins and Pam Hall’s home rooms
tied for third place with 69 items, Trudy
Gallo’s home room placed second with
77 items, and Teresa Eason’s class took
first place with 549 items. In all, 1,148
items were donated to the needy of
Wilkes County (photo, at right).
Beta Club will hold their annual
“Candy Gram” sales starting February 1.
Candy grams are a lollipop with your
personal message sent to another stu-
dent or staff.

Student Council W-WMS celebrated Red Ribbon Week, December 6-10, the largest drug awareness campaign in the country, with ac-tivities sponsored by the student council. Each day, students and staff were encouraged to dress according to a catchy theme to fight drug use. Monday, everyone was encouraged to dress tacky to represent “drugs are tacky.” Tuesday, they wore camouflage to “hide from drugs.” Wednesday, students and teachers swapped their typical attire to signify “swap drugs for a better life.” Thursday, students and staff dressed up as nerds because they were “too smart for drugs.” Friday, everyone wore blue and gold to show their “tiger spirit.” Stu-dent council members observed the costumes each day to see which grade level had the most participation. The award went to all sixth grade students, who were awarded time outside during an academic class.
