College of Science, Health, and Engineering:

• EWU is hosting a regional FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) to be

held April 5-7, 2012 in Reese Court. Approximately 45 high school

teams have registered to compete, including last year’s FRC World

Champion team.

• The Dental Hygiene Clinic at EWU-Spokane (Riverpoint campus)

served more than 6800 patients last year by providing dental services

to uninsured patients. The department’s Kids Day clinics provide free

and low-cost comprehensive dental services to low -income children

(usually about $30,000 worth of services a day). Also, the department

hosted a dental camp to introduce young people to opportunities that

are available to them in the STEM fields

International Outreach

• 1+2+1 Sino American Dual Degree Program: EWU is

one of 18 US universities participating in the

program with 82 Chinese university partners and the

fifth US institution to join program in 2005.

• Summer Hess, an MFA student, was selected for a

Fulbright scholarship for graduate research work in

2010 – she lived in Chile for 10 months.

Western’s Center for Economic Vitality has supported more than 1,300 businesses in Washington state since 2007, generating more than $25 million in new investment.

Western student mentors have spent more than 55,000 hours working with 2,500 area children through Compass 2 Campus.

Students voted to charge themselves a fee enabling Western to purchase 100 percent of its energy from green sources via renewable energy credits.
