Water of mountain, water of source, water of lake, water of river,

water is smiling, water is singing, water is going from the sea to the sky.

“ I was born from a spring water,

between two stones of mountain, I’m brook and then torrent, I’m waterfall and then river:

but I’m running in a big hurry, because the sea is waiting

for me over there the big sea with the storms, the whales and the sharks

while the ships are going quickly towards the towns very far away.”

Under the bridge, clear water is making a basin, all blue sky, andtwo little houses and a black pine tree

are mirroring, are smiling into it.

But while it’s running, water’s singing many

short stories for small nice fish, all green and all silver,

they are chasing as cheekythey are playing as children.

Acqua di monte, acqua di fonte,

acqua di lago, acqua di fiume acqua che ride, acqua che canta acqua che dal mare al cielo va.

“Nasco su da una sorgente fra due sassi di montagna; son ruscello e poi torrente, son cascata e poi fiumara:

ma di correre ho gran fretta, perché il mar, laggiù, mi aspetta

il gran mare con le tempeste, le balene e i pescicani e le navi che van leste

verso i paesi più lontani.”

La canzone dell’ acqua

Sotto il ponte, l’acqua chiara fa una conca, tutta cielo; vi si specchiano, ridendo

due casette e un pino nero.

Acqua di monte, acqua di fonte, acqua di lago, acqua di fiume

acqua che ride, acqua che canta, acqua che dal cielo al mare va.

Ma correndo l’acqua canta le novelle ai pesciolini,

tutti verdi e tutti argento che s’inseguono birichini come giocano i bambini.
