WATER PIPELINE PROJECT Information for Murrurundi and Blandford Residents OUT-5404/19 THE WATER PIPELINE IS COMING! The completion of the Scone to Murrurundi Pipeline will bring much needed water to the community of Murrurundi with the next stage of the project providing reticulated water to the villages of Blandford, Wingen and Parkville. Detailed design of the pipeline is almost complete, with construction to commence within the next couple of months. The pipeline will follow the alignment shown by the pink line on the plan over the page. From a new reservoir near the monument on the top of the Warlands Range it will run down the hill via the Old Highway Road and turn the corner into White Street near the railway crossing. It travels along White Street where it leaves Blandford via the Stock Route Road. The pipeline will be laid in a trench, surrounded by bedding sand, and then covered with the material that was dug out of the trench. Depth of cover to the pipeline will be between 600mm and 900mm. Air valves will be located on the high points to allow trapped air to escape, while scour valves will be at the low points to allow flushing. These valves will be in concrete pits with lids. The pipeline is due to be completed in mid 2020 and it is anticipated that a new, larger reservoir for Murrurundi will be built soon after. The pipeline design allows for drinking water reticulation and additional reservoirs for the villages of Blandford, Wingen and Parkville to be constructed in the future, and Council has been pursuing the connection of these villages as a high priority. Continued... Continued... Council has received confirmation of a further 60 per cent of $4,444,000 grant subsidy from the NSW Government’s Safe and Secure Water Program to assist with the delivery of water supply systems for Blandford, Wingen and Parkville and the new reservoir for Murrurundi. The grant is dependent on the submission of a business case. This funding is in addition to the $1,736,000 already allocated to village reticulation and reservoirs from the original Restart NSW Grant. Work has started on defining the reticulation zone for Blandford town water. Concept designs of different options for the zone will be presented to the Blandford community for consultation. This will guide what will be the final boundaries of the Blandford reticulation zone. The goal is to have the reticulated water systems in the villages available for connection in 2022/2023 after the completion of the pipeline to Murrurundi. Residents along the pipeline route between Blandford and Murrurundi that are outside the town and village reticulation zones may be eligible for a rural connection to the main pipeline. Please contact Council for more information on 6540 1100 or [email protected] The pipeline project is estimated to cost $14.2 million, with over $13 million in funding provided by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Water Security for Regions program. The remainder of the project funding is provided by Council. FOR MORE INFORMATION Upper Hunter Shire Council Phone 02 6540 1100 Email [email protected] Web upperhunter.nsw.gov.au
