Water problem Volvo V70 01-04
1 dl Water are disappearing every 1 or 2 days
This problem as it is an old car it is many time difficult to find the reason for a water leak, and some
mechanical shops are telling you “It is normal an old car leaking water and oil”, We say don’t believe
that, even an old car does not have to leak anything except maybe water (condense) from the air
concision in a hot summertime.
So we got this problem some years ago in one of our car a Volvo V70 01 and we refilled and refilled
every 3 days, until we looked in the cabin and there where water on the floor, not so much but it was
wet. At that time we was lucky when we ordered the O-ring and the clips for the inside heating at Volvo,
they offered us they change that for 50,- Euro exclusive cost for material, we let them do it as it was a
very good price and they showed us the clips which had been damaged from some other mechanical
shop who the previous owner for the car had used to fix the same problem and he had not used new
one but used the old one and it was no wonder it was leaking also the O-ring was damage due to wrong
assembly. After that the water inside the car was gone, but still leaking somewhere and we will show in
picture where the normal places are for small water leaks.
This is the first place you
should look; if it is wet on
the carpet you have a leak in
the heater itself or in the
connection, where there is
an O-ring and clips, one for
each connection.
And normally it is the O-ring
which you have to replace
on both sides.
This is another place, and it is
important that the clamp is mounted in
the direction as showing in picture, if it
is facing up the screw will go into the
hood isolation and bend the outlet for
the water down and after a while it will
be cracked in the plastic for outgoing
water to the oil cooling for automatic
gear (at the right hand side of the
radiator when you stand in front of the
car) then you will also have problem
with the automatic gear due to it will
not be cooling off the way it should.
We had this and we changed to new
coolant water thank but we did not
know how important the screw was so
after some time we had a leak again
the same place.

We bought not original and the sensor
did not work correctly so we
recommend original Volvo, the
difference in price is not so much.
This 2 inlet for water to heating element in the
car also have 2 rubber sealing and clips, and when
there is a leak you will have water on the floor on
the left side.

As we started we showed left side and this is
another place where it is normal it will be
problem.
The heating element in the car have 2 connection
for water which have rubber sealing and clips,
and when there is a leak you can have water on
the floor either on the left side or the right side
depends which one is leaking .
We recommend you use new O-rings and clips, to
use the old one will probably create problem
after a short while.

This is another place where it
can leak water, we had one
leak in the connection to the
radiator which was only to
tighten the clamp, and in the
other side we had crack in the
rubber just where the clamp
was, and we did not discover
this before we pressed with
finger just where the clamp
was. A tiny little crack and the
water were going behind the
generator so we could not see
it. But it was enough for having
to fill up every 3 days with
water.
After we now has found all our leaks we can say the water is stand by on max all the time, and the problem with water
loosing pressure over night as it has been before has gone, now we has pressure in the water for several days before the
pressure goes down, means we have no more small leaks.
We hope this info has helped you and we wish you good luck.
