CLARK Watercolor/Master Lessons of John Singer Sargent Join us for an intensive weekend of portrait and figure painting based on the hidden and fundamental foun- dation, techniques and attitudes of John Singer Sargent. Beyond the ap- pealing surfaces and dazzling light and shadow of Sargent’s watercolors are techniques that are hidden to the untrained eye. Using the foundation that Sargent learned in his training with Carlos Duran and the actual wa- tercolor techniques Sargent used in his mature career, you will learn, ex- perience and incorporate the basis of these methods and attitudes over an intensive weekend. Clark has researched the lives, techniques and artistic con- tent of John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer, and con- sulted and lectured at museums on this subject including at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts and at the National Gallery of Art. His intensive research on the tech- niques of Sargent was published in an article in American Artist magazine in 1996 and his research on Homer’s tech- niques was published in the same publication in 1998. Clark’s works are the subject of seven solo museum exhib- its including the exhibition at the Laguna Museum of Art in Southern California from November 4, 2012 through Janu- ary 20, 2013. Over thirty of his drawings and paintings are in public collections. He has repeatedly been listed among the top twenty-five art educators in the United States by American Artist magazine. With forty years’ experience in helping people make art, he will share his knowledge and experience to help you start the year right.
