They were eventually awarded second place in NSW after extra time and a decision that came down to a penalty shoot-out. Congratulations to the Team and their coaches Ms Jones and Mr Grimson. Wauchope High School and our community are very proud of their efforts. As you will see in this week’s newsletter there has been a lot going on at Wauchope High School. Congratulations to all students who have been involved in the activities highlighted this week and thank you for your efforts. Over the next few weeks I will be sending out information about our Gifted and Talented program for next year and some changes to school policy in relation to requirements that will need to be met for students to be considered to be eligible in representing the school in extracurricular activities. While over past months I have noticed a decline in the number of students requesting pass-outs during the day, this continues to be a significant issue for the school. I ask for your support in ensuring that your child misses as little school as physically possible. Where you are able to organise appointments for out of school hours we are very grateful. A number of years are currently working through their subject selections for next year. The school will endeavour to continue to offer as broad a curriculum offering as physically possible. It should, however, be noted that we cannot guarantee that all possible subjects will be able to run. Some student will, inevitably be asked to look at an alternative subject to the one they may have passionately wanted to pursue. This is a reality for students in all schools and not just something that we sometimes struggle with at Wauchope High School. Thank you for your understanding as we try to find a pattern of student y that will work for all students. The school has now received our students NAPLAN results for 2015. These have been distributed to students this afternoon. If your child has forgotten to pass it on to you it is possibly still lying in the bottom of the school bag. If you would like to know how they have performed it could be a good place to start looking. OPEN GIRLS FOOTBALL TEAM

NSW CHS Football provides opportunities for students in the secondary public school system in NSW to play for their schools in state wide knockout competitions, to represent their educational areas against other areas in the state, to gain selection in CHS teams and play against students from the private school sector, and ultimately to gain selection in NSW and Australian teams selected from secondary schools in both public and private sectors. The Open Girls Football team did us proud on Wednesday evening by becoming second in the state in the CHS Knockout Carnival. It was a hard fought battle with our girls leading into the last 30 seconds of the game. In a nail biting penalty shootout the girls were narrowly defeated. Thank you girls, you are champions, thank you Ms Jones and Mr Grimson.

Bunnings Support Wauchope High School on Tree Day Planet Ark and Bunnings run a yearly pro-gram called School Tree Day. A different school each year is chosen as the recipi-ent and this year Port Macquarie decided to support Wauchope High School. Bunnings delivered 6 Australian Native trees and assisted students with planting them in the new Yarning Circle . The trees will bring shade , a range of bush tucker and attract local fauna. The team from Bunnings kindly assisted with planting and provided fertiliser, gar-den gloves, drink bottles, hats and water-ing equipment. Thank you Bunnings and Planet Ark. Great work girls!

The CAPA Department have had another few glorious weeks and have some wonderful news to share.

After auditioning for the State Drama Ensemble, Kim and Rose from Year 10 received an exciting email to say they had both been accepted into this years cast. They were chosen from all Public Schools across the

State and they will represent Wauchope High School at a week long Drama intensive, followed by a

performance at the State Drama Festival to be held at the Seymour Centre in Sydney.

This is an incredible achievement for these girls and this school as the audition process was very rigorous. We wish them all the best for Sydney and know they

will do Wauchope High School proud.

MORE OUTSTANDING SUCCESS FOR CAPA Earlier this term, Rose and Georgia expressed interest in the State Choir and last week were notified of their inclusion in this year's group. They are very excited to be a part of such a

prestigious choir and look forward to the rehearsals and performance to be held at the Sydney Opera

House in October. Mrs Jensen and the CAPA staff are all extremely

excited for Rose, Kim and Georgia. Well done girls!

Motivational Media came to our school last Tuesday and presented to all years a 40 minute, high impact cinematic presentation with music, interviews and visuals.

This presentation covered strategies to control harmful behaviour, fight peer pressure, low self esteem, substance abuse, emotional and physical abuse and self harm.

This was a wonderful presentation with lots of ‘take home’ messages for the students.

Wauchope Primary school students in year 6 were studying micro-organisms while also looking at the Great Barrier Reef as part of their HSIE and Science/Technology units of work. Mr Bowen and Mr Reid took time off class to prepare an enriching lesson about how microbes and coral are linked as well as demonstrate to the students how acidification of the world’s oceans are increasingly threatening the survivability of the coral reefs due to climate change. Students from Wauchope Primary School were excellent observers and concluders and enjoyed the lessons. Wauchope High School is now looking into other ways to support the Bago Community of Schools. If you have any suggestions how the science staff could get out into the community with our equipment and expertise please feel free to suggest ideas to Mr Reid.

Wauchope High competes in State Top 10

The Wauchope High School Boys and Girls Touch Football team travelled to Bateau Bay on the Central Coast last week to compete in the NSW Combined High Schools Top Ten Knockout Finals Series. This was the first time that the Girls team had reached this level of competition, so it was a great reward for their efforts during the year. On Tuesday, both teams had to play four gruelling games against the other members of their pool to determine a position for the play-offs the following day. The Girls played Kiama, Narrabeen Sports, Castle Hill and Inverell, while the Boys played Warilla, Terrigal, Dubbo Senior College and Francis Greenway. At the end of the day, both teams finished 4th in their respective pools, which meant they had to play for 7th or 8th position on Wednesday. The Girls unfortunately went down 3-1 to Tweed River High in the play-off to finish eighth, but this was still a terrific result from such a young team who will have the opportunity to improve over the next couple of years. The Boys were able to win their match over Parkes High School 11-6 to give them seventh position, the equal best result achieved at this level by a Wauchope team. This is also a young team who will seek to improve over the coming years. Each player in the two teams voted for a Most Valuable Player on a 3-2-1 basis, with Kristy Roods and Tyrell Wright-Scott polling the most votes from the their teammates, which was well deserved. Thanks to all the parents for transporting the teams down there and supporting both Mr Clayworth and myself, along with your children. Mr Hancock
