We know our parks are beautiful, and love to have you take those special photos with us as a backdrop. Please be careful of special recent plantings within the Community Park and other areas. We know Asylum Point Park is a particular favorite. Please also be aware of other park users as they may wander into your shot without intending to do so. Picturing Yourself (literally) in
Winnebago County Parks
Vines & Rushes is excited to again partner with Marigold Yoga in hosting Yoga Classes in the vineyard. Classes will be held every Wednes-day beginning June 1st through August 31st. There will be a $5 charge for each class.
One class per month will feature live music by yoga musician, Dennis Hawk.
Free wine tasting will be available following yoga. Relax with a glass of wine, cheese, crackers, popcorn or chocolates. The winery will be open until 8:00 PM for those who wish to stay and enjoy the summer evening.
Please bring your own yoga mat, if you do not have one, bring a towel or blanket. In case of rain, yoga will be held inside.

On May 16 Ms. Clark’s 2nd grade class from Valley Christian School helped our staff plant seeds for a Monarch Watch garden within The Natural Way inside the Winnebago County Community Park. Thanks for all your help kids, you did a great job!

What’s Up With…????
Picnic kits are available for rental in the Parks Office. You don’t have to rent a shelter to rent a picnic kit. Kits include: disc golf kit with discs for 4 players and carrying case, volleyball/badminton kit with net, ball, birdies and 4 rackets, bean bag toss kit with bags for 8 players and ping pong kit with 4 paddles and lots of ping pong balls.
The disc golf kit is $20.00 with $10.00 de-posit, cash only.
The other kits are $10.00 with $10.00 de-posit, cash only.
The Parks Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..

Identifying waterway markers
There are two main types of waterway markers designed to assist boaters in navigation and accident prevention. "Regulatory buoys" are designed to identify areas with speed limits or where boats are not allowed. "Navigation aids" are designed to identify lanes of navigation or "channels." It is important that boaters be familiar with each of these buoy types and the message each one conveys.
For safety reasons, except for an approved mooring buoy, no person may moor or fasten any vessel to a regulatory buoy or aid to navigation. It is unlawful for unauthorized people to move, remove, tamper with, destroy or attempt to destroy any waterway marker.
BOATS KEEP OUT: This buoy is signified by a cross in the center of an open dia-mond. Boats Keep Out buoys mark areas where vessel operation is prohibited. Typical areas for these buoys are swim beaches and dams.
DANGER: This buoy is signified by an open diamond. Danger buoys mark areas that
are hazardous to vessel operation. Typical areas for these buoys are submerged rocks or shoals.
CONTROLLED AREA: This buoy is signified by an open circle. Control buoys mark areas where vessel speed or wake is controlled for safety purposes. Some control buoys may limit water skiing or other activities. Typical areas for these buoys are around boat launches and other congested areas.
NOTE: "Slow-no-wake" is a common message on controlled area buoys. Slow-no-wake means that speed at which a boat moves as slowly as possible while still maintaining steerage control.

INFORMATIONAL: This buoy is signified by an open rectangle. Informational buoys convey messages other than danger, control or restriction, which may contribute to health, safety or well-being.
Aids to navigation.
RED BUOY (NUN): Marks the right side of the channel when travelling upstream.
GREEN BUOY (CAN): Marks the left side of the channel when travelling upstream.
BLACK & WHITE VERTICAL STRIPES: Marks the center of the channel. Pass closely
on either side.

Mooring buoys are white with a blue band and are spherical or ovate in shape.

IMPORTING PETS FROM OUTSIDE WISCONSIN
Importing Household Pets
A "household pet" is an animal from a traditional companion animal species: dog, domestic cat, fer-ret, hedgehog, pet bird, rabbit, or domestic rodent (gerbil, guinea pig, hamster, or domestic mouse or rat). All other animals kept as pets, including dog hybrids, domestic cat hybrids, and exotic small cat species such as servals, are either considered livestock or exotic pets.
"Importing" refers to animals being brought into Wisconsin during vacation travel as well as animals relocating permanently into the state.
Required
Porcupines hedgehogs, prairie dogs and other ‘popular’ Certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI) with physical destination address
Current rabies vaccination for dogs and domestic housecats five months and older with date of vaccination and revaccination due date written on the CVI
Not required:
Testing or other statements on the CVI
Import permit number
A CVI is required for animals entering Wisconsin by any mode of transportation - automobile, air-plane, rail, etc.
Wisconsin accepts both valid one-year and three-year rabies vaccines, which must be administered by a licensed veterinarian. If you have questions, call 608-224-4874 weekdays between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central Time.
For ferrets, pet birds, rabbits, or common rodents (guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, etc.), there are no tests or statements required.
For household pets being brought into Wisconsin from outside the United States, please contact the Centers for Disease Control at 404-639-3311 or visit the CDC website. You should also visit the USDA website to find any information not covered on the CDC website.

We know that cats and dogs get all the attention as family pets. But, you can find just as much love and affection and a rewarding experience as adding an exotic pet to your family. Don't worry, we aren't suggesting you take in a lion, tiger, or bear (oh my!). At Pets Plus, our top "exotics" make great pets and wonderful additions to your family lifestyle.
There are several factors you must consider when owning an exotic pet. One important reminder is that not every veterinarian will see exotic pets, so you may have to travel to find a qualified vet. Their vet bills can also be higher than a dog's or cat's. But they can also be unique and adored additions to your family! Learn more about the great things and the not-so-great things about chinchillas, hedge-hogs, prairie dogs, sugar gliders, or ferrets.
CHINCHILLAS Besides the fact that chinchillas are way too cute for their own good, they have the softest fur imaginable. They also are lively, inquisitive, and busy little critters. Like other rodents, chinchillas spend a majority of their time in a cage - so it may be great for a small apartment lifestyle and they're much more independent than a dog.
Some things to be mindful of before you take one home: they're nocturnal creatures and may keep you up at night if the cage is in your bedroom. Also, these animals cannot sweat and therefore need to be in a temperature-controlled environment with air-conditioning. Chinchillas need dust baths a few times a week (a specially-formulated dust product), and many owners find it messy and may have allergic reactions.
HEDGEHOGS Hedgehogs are fascinating little pets who don’t require a lot of care. Once a hedgehog is used to being handled, it will unroll from its protective ball and flatten its spines, so it won’t be so prickly to hold. Hedgehogs make great pets if you live in a smaller space, and they don't need a lot of interaction or exercise. Just having an exercise wheel is great exercise.
However, too much noise is a big no-no. They get stressed easily and should not be handled by small children. Also, quilling can be a pain. New sharp quills come in, and you may need to use heavy gloves when handling. Hedgehogs also have a strange habit called anointing where they cover themselves with their saliva in response to new smells.
PRAIRIE DOGS Prairie Dogs are affectionate, loving creatures largely due to their social struc-ture in nature. The Pros? They're absolutely adorable and loving. They never tire of being with their families - kissing, hugging, grooming, patting, and playing.
The Cons? Your pet prairie dog will need a lot of social time and companionship. They need attention and love. They also bond with their "family" (or new owners!) at a very young age, so it may be prob-lematic if you add a grown prairie dog to your family.
SUGAR GLIDERS Sugar gliders are adorable little pets with the fascinating ability to glide through the air. Similar to Prairie Dogs, they require "bonding" with their owners. Once a sugar glider is bonded to its owner, it will consider its owner its best friend, ride in a pocket and glide back to its owner from across the room. Because sugar gliders bond so closely to their owner, they are best for older teens and adults who want to spend a lot of time interacting with their pet.
The Cons? New sugar gliders need some time and special attention to bond to their owner. Unneu-tered males have a tendency to urinate through the bars of the cage. Neutering will reduce this behav-ior. Gliders can make sounds that some people find annoying. Sugar gliders are nocturnal and so are most active at night. They are very active animals that need a lot of exercise and at least an hour out of
their cage each night.
