2. Push Foul What makes this a Push Foul? Break Down: Defender
puts two hands on the airborne shooter, and extends his hands. The
shooter is pushed backward, impeding his progress, and consequently
affecting his shot. This is a basic foul call. Tips for Calling
This: Officiate the Defense If he moves into the shooter, and
creates contact we have a foul.
3. Push Foul #2 What makes this a Push Foul? Break Down: Green
#4 displaces White. Green #4 moves into the lane area from behind
White. Tips for Calling This: This is a loose-ball play. You are
officiating the player moving into the lane. See the Whole Play.
This means you have to officiate the action leading up (Green #4)
moving into the lane, the contact on White, and seeing the contact
causing displacement. This is a basic foul call.
4. Push Foul #3 What makes this a Push Foul? Break Down: This
is a loose ball play. Green #9 displaces Blue #6. Green #9 uses his
arm and shoulder to clear out Blue #6, moving him off his spot so
that Green #9 or a teammate has an easier chance at a rebound This
should be a foul Green #9 moved the player off of his spot. Making
this an easier call, Blue #6 was standing straight up, moved toward
the basket, and fell in the opposite direction. Tips for Calling
This: Officiate your match ups within your calling area. This was a
matchup. See if there is contact. If there is contact, does the
player use that arm, shoulder, body to physically move a player off
of his spot or route?
5. Undercutting Block/Body Foul What makes this a foul for
undercutting the airborne player? Break Down: White #33 was
airborne. Green #9 gives up his position and moves forward to a
spot on the floor underneath White #33. A player must be given room
to return to the floor. Foul occurs at :03. Making this call
easier, Green #9 extends his leg out from under his body and
underneath that of White #33. Green #9 is entitled to a spot on the
floor within the frame of his body. Tips for calling this: Watch
for a player moving, or moving to a spot while contact is made.
Watch to see if an airborne player lands on an opponent when
returning to the floor. (If he left the floor, there was nobody at
that spot when he jumped).
