Heeding the Prophecies of what wasto come, the Anishinabe Nationswho resided on the northeasternshores of Turtle Island, left theireastern homelands to make a “GreatMigration” following thewaterways “flowing from the west”.
It was said that they were led bythe “Sacred Shell” who led themalong the St. LawrenceRiver, through the GreatLakes, completing the migration atthe western end of OjibwayGitchi-Gameh (today’s LakeSuperior). Through the course oftheir journey, which took manygenerations, they stopped seventimes – these becoming knownas “the seven major stoppingplaces”.
