In the era of Conscious Ghetto rap and the genesis of “Trap-Rap”, was born the product that is known by the name, Sha Swizz. Born on September 1, 1991, Rashawn McPherson aka Sha Swizz, has lived up and personified the traces of that era of rap and turned it into a new, but familiar, and sorely missed sound…intelligence. Through his mix-tapes, he has grown exponentially with every 16 bars. From “Aller-gic to Lames”, to his latest project, “Real Rap: Infancy”, he has continue to raise the bar amongstcontemporaries that have forgotten their metaphoric roots and an audience who needs it. Sha Swizz is the new era of a dying breed.

borinomark For 22-year-old rising star Mark Borino, getting to do what he loves, is like a dream come true. Borino describes his own music as a mix of Dance, R&B, Pop and Hip Hop while at the same time signifying deep meaning. “I never choose a song that I can’t feel. My music will always reflect who I am.” Mark’s voice and style is rather developed for a 22-year-old and his connection to his music shines through. That does not mean that Mark doesn’t seek constant improvement and constructive criticism in all areas. “You can be a performer and not be an artist, but I am an artist. I am not only honing my songwriting skills and producing, but I am also develop-ing my total package including my image and my stage presence.” In addi-tion to Stevie Wonder, Mark’s influences include the king of pop, Michael Jackson, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Drake and Chris Brown. He was most touched by Chris Brown’s dedication to Michael Jackson after his untimely death, realizing how music has the ability to transcend all bound-aries. Having been involved in choir and various music lessons throughout school, Mark is no stranger to the stage. He has had the opportunity to per-form in a variety of places, and has a standard of performance that would rival some of the greats. Borino has plans to perform on bigger stages and is determined to take the world by storm in a short period of time. With a dream that can be attained through his consistent hard work and love of all aspects of his craft, Mark Borino has no doubt that he’s more than ready to put his stamp on the music industry, one song at a time.

Featured ArtistWhat motivates you to keep going?

My family and friends. I want them to be able to experience the dream and vision with me; to live a life only people dream of or see on TV. I also want to impact the younger gen-eration and culture in a positive way and be a role model which in today’s so-ciety we absolutely lack.

What is the biggest barrier you currently face as an upcoming artist?

I think it’s just getting the fan base started. I get a lot of positive feedback from people on social media and in person but I’ve always

been by myself. In this industry, you need a team to make the dream work. So you need people helping you out with the marketing and promotional aspect of it and if it’s just them giving you feedback to make the music bet-ter. Anything helps.

Out of all the songs you’ve made, which one is your favorite thus far and why?

I have this new song I made alongside my friend Notez (who’s super tal-ented as well) entitled “Somebody Else”, which will me on my new EP “

Featured Artist“MCMXCII.” This song is my favorite due to the fact I recorded the idea within an hour. It was just one of those moments where the lyrics come out quickly the song was cut, so it was cool. But I have a lot of songs I enjoy from this new EP so it’s hard to pin point just one.

What information would you pass down to other artist so they can achieve the same success you have?

I’ve said this once before and I’ll say it again, just because you’re not good at something at first, doesn’t mean you can’t become great. It takes TIME, PRACTICE, PATIENCE and CONSISTENCY. It does not hap-pen overnight but you have to just keep working.

How would you describe your sound to people who have never heard of your music before?

My sound is a touch of 90’s R&B mixed with this generation’s style of sing-ing and production. I think I developed more of a style and sound in my voice as well. So when you hear me singing, you’ll know it’s me; you know what I mean?

When did you realize you had musical talents?

I have always been into music. I took piano and guitar lessons when I was younger but that didn’t last long because at that time I also wanted run around outside playing sports. I was involved with the school choir from 7th grade through my sophomore year of high school. I started making music when I was 18-19 years old but when I turned 20, I began to realize that I could actually put music together.

Do you have any upcoming releases on the way?

Yes I do! I have an EP coming out titled “MCMXCII” which simply means “1992” in Roman numerals (which is my birthday year). I’m really excited about this project. It’s definitely a step up from my album, “First Time Around” which is the album on iTunes. The singing, writing, production and mixing are all better in my opinion but hopefully when people hear it they will feel the same.

With his heavy hitting punch lines and his unique use of metaphors, Feli Fame also known as Propane Fame, con-tinues to cause a buzz in the streets with his new project ‘Everything starts From now’ the first single ‘The Bleachers’ is really getting the acclaim it deserves. Moving to North Carolina at an early age, this rising phenomenon’s exposure to diverse experiences allowed him the opportunity to gain knowledge that has been expressed through his music. After spending time in North Carolina, Feli Fame came back to his birthplace [New Jersey] in an attempt to escape the negative path of racial wars between blacks and Native Americans that many young men from Pembroke were falling into. He chose to focus on his studies and develop as an artist in his dedication to the art of hip hop. Graduating from high school, he devoted his time to his rhymes. “I chose the name Feli Fame because I wanted to be known for making records, not having a criminal record. I have an alter ego “Pro-pane” Fame which showcases my versatility and creativity on records that are for any genre. The Feli happens to be for the streets.” With the remarkable feedback of his last mixtape “’Dirty Laundry,” there is no doubt that Feli Fame willbring both North Carolina and New Jersey to prominence in the game. His unique style is one that is far from duplicated; he’s raising bars for hip hop artists both new and old. With his career on a steady rise, Feli Fame can be noted for his appearance on Cam’ron & The U.N. present “Heat in Here” Vol. 1, Funk Master Flex “IFWT Indie Music” Vol. 1 and Dipset West mixtapes “World Domination” and “Global Warming.”Dirty Laundry was also the album that broke fame to mainstream radio with hits like “May they Earn” featuring Texas upcom-

His new project “Everything starts From now”brings merit and innovation we have not seen since Drake’s “So Far Gone” by including his second screen written short film this is already a big deal. “Ever since I worked on set with 50 Cent for his “Before I Self Destruct” movie, just seeing how they directed, I knew I had to make a movie of my own,” says Feli Fame. Holding his own, Feli Fame has performed at numer-ous venues and interviewed by various Hip Hop publications such as The Source Magazine, XXL Magazine, Hip Hop Weekly, Hip Hop Nation and

other media outlets from live radio to internet ra-dio. Confidence is key, but with a strong support system of music peers, fans and family as well as pure raw talent, the future of hip hop is destined for greatness.

How did you begin your journey in the music industry?

Some would say it started with the diplomat movement, some would say it started with the 50 cent movie. To me it began when I was in North Caro-lina riding on the school bus writing songs on the way to school in one of my million rhyme books.

In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first start-ed?

It’s more personal and direct. I like to solve the puzzle first and then give it to the consumer instead of me giving the consumer a puzzle to put together themselves.

What are the main inspirations for the lyrics you write?

Being in the position I’m in everyday I wake up gives me inspiration. Some

If you were forced to choose only one, which emotion, more than any other drives you to stay in this tough business. Is it joy, anger, desire, passion or pride and why?

It would be a tie between desire and passion. I have a strong passion for my take on music and my desire just won’t let me cut myself short.

Can you tell us about any new projects or ideas you will be working on in the near future?

Yes, Everything. Starts. From. Now. Is my priority right now, which is my album and I might actually be doing an independent film by that name in the future.

How do you separate yourself from other artists?

What I do, how I move, what I’ve done and what I’m going to continue to do separates me from the rest. I do not know how many other artists Oprah knows of…but she knows of me. Enough said.

What do you feel is the most pressing or important problem in our so-ciety now, and do you feel as though your experience as an artist has aided or complicated your involvement in these issues?

Absolutely not, my mission as an artist is not to complicate anything. I am a voice; I carry a message. I want to be the person that people can listen to

BESSASMIKEY BESSAS The Greek American Song Writer, Rapper, Singer Mikey Bessas was born in 1991 on the ninth of April at St. Clare’s Hospital of Morristown, NJ. Mikey Bessas was raised in Northern NJ and was always heavily influenced by music and what it had to offer. From an early age he practically lived in the chorus and band room all throughout school. He was an honor and chamber choir “stand out” and excelled immediately. Bessas Started writing music when he was only 15 years old and has continued to do so into his early twenties. He claims to have over 100 songs on cue ready for his highly anticipated mixtape trilogy “Weekend Warrior”. This trilogy is essentially influenced by the young, wild and reckless lifestyles of his generation, club night experiences, and struggling with female relationships (like the hit (love/hate) single “Bar Stool Babe” and Jersey Shore party anthem “Mol-lyWood”). Once he graduated High school he decided that it was time, time that he needed to get back on stage on a more career oriented basis, so he started performing on his own… and for big names; (such as MGK and Lloyd Banks). After building a large fan base in the tri state area, two years later he joined forces with the Turn Up Boys and became a member of the family. He has tasted the adrenaline of the stage, response from the fans, and the drive of the movement as a team. Doing shows every weekend he proclaims himself “The TRUE Weekend Warrior!” “Started off running… Haven’t stopped since”. – Bessas

Amanda RaeAmanda Rae DiRenzo Amanda was born April 11th 1992 at St. Clare’s Hospital of Denville, NJ. Growing up in the small town of Hopatcong, NJ Amanda always knew she wanted something more, something bigger than what was available, and she had the talent to get what she wanted. She started singing in grade school plays and musicals as a young girl and those performances alone sparked an interest in pursuing some type of a career in the music indus-try. High school sports momentarily halted of that dream, yet her hunger never diminished for the arts. After high school she met a new group of friends from Jefferson, New Jersey and a select few were hip hop/rap art-ists and song writers. This group, now known as the Turn Up Boys, had found their missing piece with Amanda Rae’s delicate yet ruthless abil-ity to sing, making them a much more diverse and dangerous team in the music industry. She has been dubbed the “First Lady”, as she is currently the only female member in the TUB family. Performing live for her first time on stage with TUB’s artist Saint Anthony and their single “Chasing my Dreams”, Bliss Lounge in Clifton, NJ was just the beginning. She and the Turn Up Boys have begun doing shows every other week including making multiple stops with Joe Budden on one of his 2014 tours. She is currently working on a duo project with Saint Anthony known as “Beauty and the Beast EP” along with solo acoustic side projects of her own. She will have you wanting more and she will give you more than you can han-dle! “Don’t forget the name, Amanda Rae” –Amanda Rae

At the age of 12 years old, Chance, now known as “Jae Burg”, started off his destined career as a rapper with much family influence. His father was a producer and, as a child, seeing him and his friends in the studio all hours of the day; producing music with different artists in-spired young Chance. It wasn’t until he met PRiiMe in 2012 that his path was made clear and a common goal was set in place. Now as one of the standing members of the Turn Up Boys, Chance “Jae Burg” Halyard has put out nothing but club bangers and hit singles since day one such as “Get It” featuring Kool Grey and “Make It Clap”. He only strives to continue to work hard and focus on the music fans want to hear, people want to move to, and the one thing his loves best, which is performing for the fans! ”There’s no stopping my greatness.” “To try isn’t enough, I DO to succeed”.

What is your favorite part of working as a group?

Priime: My group is my family.Saint: My favorite part of working as a group is how we all feed off each other’s energy. We make each other better and are constantly improving because of that.Amanda Rae: My favorite part of working as a group is the connection we’ve all made on not only a music career level but on a personal level as well. I consider these guys my family. The love and support we all give each other is something you can’t even put into words. No matter what, we’re always down to ride for one another, and that’s something you won’t get going solo.Jae Burg: My favorite part of working as a group is being able to share different ideas. Ty and Priime are technically the leaders though as far as booking shows and handling the clothing line.Jae Burg: Nobody is the leader. We all contribute equally. We each bring something different to the table. That’s what is so great about the group we all have different sounds.

What image do you think your image conveys?

Amanda Rae: Being that we go by the name Turn Up Boys, people may look at us and judge just by our name itself thinking we are a bunch of am-ateurs, when in reality, our name really is just to prove that we take every-thing we do and fulfill it to our full potential, nothing is half done. We all portray a different look, but carry the same mentality.Saint: Evolution of our groups sound... We let our music speak for itself, so the fans can answer this question better than anyone. But if you compared my older material to my new material, you can hear a HUGE difference in style, flow, lyrics, instrumentals and everything else that comes with writ-ing music. Speaking for myself, I can say my music evolved in both positive and negative ways. I’ll let you be the Judge.Jae Burg: We make turn up music. Music that makes you want to get up and “shake dem dreads” (LoL). And that comes from our personality. We are so live and full of life everywhere we are, be-cause our music reflects us.

How long have you guys been a group?

June 2012

Do you feel your music is aimed to any age group?

Amanda Rae: I can’t say we make music for everyone because there are some songs more than not that definitely would need a mass amount of editing for every age group to listen to. We make music that we love and hope that as many people young or old enjoy it.Jae Burg: It’s clear that our music isn’t for children but I want any age group to hear our music and love it no matter what. Every-one in their own way should turn up!

TyBoogz: Age group...? Well no, this is for anyone who wants something and works hard to get it. This is for the younger generation, for our gen-eration and for our parents’ generation. Although some of our music may perk up the ears of certain types or groups of people, we do this music for everyone.

Saint: My music can be for all ages depending on which songs we’re talk-ing about and depending on lyrics. If it’s for a younger crowd then I’m go-ing to have to censor a whole lot of stuff.

What is the weirdest experience you guys have had together as a group?

TyBoogz: Since we are together 90% of the time outside of doing music we have war stories and unbelievable experiences for days we could share! One memory that I would describe as flat out weird would have to be the time me, PRiiMe and I don’t know who else were drinking all night at a few different bars around Lake Hopatcong, NJ. I woke up on an island at some-one’s house, whom I didn’t know, with PRiiMe and a few random people… I still wonder to this day how we ended up on that island and what had oc-curred up until that point.Jae Burg: In my opinion the biggest challenge for me is trying to top the other members. It’s a friendly competition to me. I try to go harder than anyone when we do tracks, especially if we are doing group records.Saint: For me, the biggest challenge being in a group is dealing with mul-tiple personalities.Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, which makes it tough if I or someone else doesn’t agree. There are times when we have arguments and stress out, but at the end of the day, its

business and business isn’t always a smooth ride. We’re family so we always end up coming to an agreement and making things happen.

Bright Lightz, a true testament of rising talent destined for greatness. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York this proud 80’s baby lived, breathed and slept music. Peers, teachers and family members alike were moved by his profound lyrics and metaphors as early as 14. At a young age he had a wide range of music influences . Some of his favorite music artists are LL Cool J, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Michael Jackson, TuPAC, Biggie, Nas, Wu tang and Keith Sweat just to name a few “ I started to express my self by kicking freestyles in hallways and at school but it wasn’t until I started really writing and learning how to put a song together did I really feel in my zone ” says Bright Lightz. Not only has Bright Lightz perfected his craft he is a starter. As an artist he sets no boundaries, to him the sky is the limit when it comes to growing in his career. Summer of 2014 he will grace the industry with his next project, “Blinding”.Bright Lights is making sure that with the right team and dope lyrics, people not only know the face but they know the name.

Unlike others who inspire to be in the music industry for the fame, Bright Lightz sole intention when he rocks the mic is to empower others through his music while providing for his children. Everyone has a story, but for someone growing in the inner city streets such as Bright Lightz whom knows first hand what is it like to be hungry that is an experience he never wants his love ones to go through. When asked what are your favorite quotes Bright states “A close mouth does not get fed” and the second “I am my brothers keeper.” Bright Lightz is the poster child for someone whom is loyal, humble but

Out of StateWho influences your style?

I love doing music. It's a passion because I can express myself and vent and people listen. My inspiration to keep going is because when I started I wasn’t serious, yet people began noticing my skills and complimenting me. It was that feedback that inspired me to get serious. My surroundings and people I'm around daily as well as the experiences they bring are also sources of influence. I’ve always wanted to be original and embrace the New York and hip hop movement.

As an artist, is there anything special you hope to be able to accomplish in the next year that you haven’t yet?

I’m still underground, so I’m continuing to work hard to get to that next level. I haven’t really gotten to where I want to be, yet, I intend to stay true to my goal of being successful in this industry. I would like to get more main stream and reach a larger scale of people to listen. I think my lyrics speak for itself so if I get the people to hear it, I think it’s signed sealed and delivered.

What do you feel is the theme of most of your music?

The theme of my music is life surrounding everyday situations like rela-tionships, money, love, hate and my surroundings. An artist to me is a person just express what they feel and what they been through. I want my music to reach all audiences. I consider myself an artist and I believe ev-eryone can relate to me. I don’t want to be put in a box because I feel like I could collaborate with all genres.

Is it hard finding the perfect balance of performing, recording and living life at home with your family?

Of course but that’s a big part of the reason I do this. There are always going to be setbacks, whether it’s working with different management and a whole new team or otherwise. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want it, but you have to keep pushing and believing success will come.

What keeps you going on the days you feel down and out?

7 Just reality through relationships, family, love, hate, violence and just everyday events for an average Joe I can only speak on what I know and what I’ve seen My family because I have to put food on the table. The drive in me has never made me a whiner or quitter; but just a go getter.

S.Paradise is an artist representing Queens New York. His music is a direct reflection of not only his experiences, but of an entire genera-tion. His songs come to life before your eyes as if you were watching a movie. Everything from the beat selection, the concept ,and even the tone in which he delivers his lyrics is brilliantly calculated to give a full relatable experience. S.Paradise’s music displays why hip hop should be respected as an intelligent art form.

Who do you feel is making huge changes right now in the art form of hip hop currently?

J Cole. He is doing that by simply being himself, and making honest music that he feels.

Coming from a state so big in the music world (New York), do you feel you have expectations from the industry you have to uphold due to previous artists who came out before you?

At times I do because we have a long list of greats that have been doing it big for 20 plus years all the way back to the birth of hip hop. You also have these underground dudes up and coming that are ex-tremely talented.

Being from New York, you’re not the only guy in every neighborhood that thinks he is the best; you have one literally on every corner thinking the same thing. At the end of the day, I don’t worry about any of that because I am who I am and no one could give you my story better than I could. With that being said I will always feel that there’s no one in my lane.

How did you become involved in the music industry?

I became involved in the industry when my manager Devon Carr decided to manage BrightLightz. I just felt confident in his abilities to bring my music to a bigger audience. Prior to that, I never had any real aspiration to become involved in the music industry, I was content with making music in my studio and sharing it amongst my family and friends. I also felt so uninspired by the music I was hearing on radio and felt I could definitely bring some substance and respect back to art form and culture called hip hop.

If you could work with anyone in the world right now, who would it be?

That’s a tough one...really is because I love music but I would say Jay-Z..... It’s HOV; need I say more?

What was the highest part of your career thus far?

Completing my first album. To see something go from an idea then later manifest before your eyes is a feeling like none other.
