We are thinking about the demands of living at within our
families, including our family here at school.
Homes and Families
When do you find you have to give and take at home? When do you find you have to forgive and be
forgiven?
Bedtimes
TelevisionHomework
School run
Chores
Meal times
Think about the family of the school.
Left Out Together
There’s the crowd of them again,
The boys with their girls,
Carefree,
Laughing and chatting and going somewhere –
Not including me.
They never say,
‘Why don’t you come too?’
I wander away
And pretend I don’t care –
But I do.
And when they come back
They’ve got it all to remember
And share.
I wouldn’t know:
I wasn’t there.
I tried once to be friends with a girl;
Well, actually, I’ve tried twice.
But – this is the truth –
I’ve always thought
That you looked quiet and nice.
You look as though
You might be feeling the same:
Left on the sidelines,
Out of the game...?
You are?
I was actually wondering whether
We could team up and both be
Left out together.
Eric Finney
Left out
It feels as if pins
Are prickling my eyes,
My face is burning hot,
A firework is trying
To go off inside me.
My feet are glued to the spot.
My hands are rocks in my pockets.
I want to run away,
But my legs are rooted to the ground
Like trees. I have to stay
And listen
To everyone calling me names
And not letting me
Join in with their games.

How have we got on?
Have we thought about how living in our family can sometimes throw up problems we have to think hard about?
Have we thought about how we need to include people in our school family?
Have we thought about how different families may have different problems?
Have we thought about how we need to work at getting on with people and there must be give and take at home and at
school?
